It was never lucrative enough for him to do so. Nobody wanted to see him unify with Jan Zaveck or Senchenko.

Yeah Victoriano Sosa and Henry Brusseles were far more important and significant fights than unifications.

He was an opportunist who took the path of least resistance once he became a ¨star¨

His nickname is "Money" for a reason brotha lol all those sanctioning fees were pointless to him as soon as he became the biggest draw in the sport. No one wants to pay fees for all those belts

Why fight for any belt then?

                  I don’t know
the bottom line is, he fought the career he wanted to have
like the song by Frank Sinatra, he did it his way.
I don’t think he’s really the best ever, but he certainly was one of the best of his generation and made boatloads of money over the course of his career. Heck he’s still making boatloads of money.
floyd Was a businessman first and a boxer second and his resume in terms of beating world beaters in their primes certainly isn’t the best outside of the Corrales fight, so he will never be rated with guys like the two Sugar Rays, or Ali, or Hagler, who took all comers and looked quite good doing so. But I have a feeling he got what he wanted from his career.

For Floyd specifically, he made it clear that he didn't care about any belt towards the latter part of his career. He was a big enough draw without a title

For fighters trying to reach that level though, its important to become a champ and pay those fees. Once established, you could make enough or more money without holding every single belt there is. We all could agree that there are wayyy too many belts in modern day boxing

Yeah when Floyd was at 140, I remember how willing Hatton and Cotto were to fight him.
