How much can Boxing Sparring help you defend yourself ?

If a average guy sparrs on a weekly basis how well would he be able to defend himself in a street fight ?

Very well. You can learn the basics of boxing pretty damn quickly and they will take you far against your average street thug types. I think the ideal things to learn specifically for street defence type situations (excluding psychological, threat awareness/avoidance etc type stuff which is equally important to the physical stuff) are boxing and judo.

Not as good as you'd think. Nerves kick in. Jui Jitsu training is better for street fighting.

BJJ. Go to a Gracie academy. Better yet, don't get into street fights. You'll eventually run into someone like me who can beat or choke you to death but would still rather stab or shoot you.

Exactly, you never want to end up on the ground in a street brawl. Quick strikes and try to end it and get the hell out of there.

                    Absolutely not

For self defence boxing is the way to go as there is a extremely quick learning curve. Literally 6 months of training and sparring makes you significantly better prepared.

You wouldn’t want to rely on BJJ until your at least purple belt imo. That’s 4-5 years.

Even then I wouldn’t recommend it.

Wrestling would be a much better option.

I trained BJJ at Gracie Barra gym in Oval, SE London as well as Carpe Diem BJJ in borough/
