Mix it with Judo, freestyle/folkstyle wrestling, or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Fighting is striking AND grappling. Always both, not one or the other.

For street fighting? It will help but not as much as you might think. Boxing is a sport. It doesn't teach you how to protect yourself from bites, eye gouging, kicks, bats, thrown objects, knees, knifes, etc.

Plus, street fights have a way of turning into one guy versus multiple guys. There's no honor in street fighting and no rules.

If you can overmatch your opponent with an effective strike or 3, there is no grappling. In the unlikely event, that would be my goal if it should ever come to that.

Yes, a striker can take out a grappler sometimes before they get hold of them. But if the grappler does grab you, you're toast.

That's why I said you need both. Every fighter in MMA who is any good has separate coaches for boxing, for kickboxing/Muay Thai, and for some kind of wrestling/grappling.

If you only know how to box and your opponent knows how to box and they know Judo, chances are they're going be able to get their hands on you at some point and then you're getting tossed around on concrete or getting choked out.
