A lot of fighters clinch stronger, faster fighters to throw off their rhythm/power and frustrate the opponent to the novice its boring but it can be very effective in winning a fight, a good ref will take points if it gets excessive. Closing and clinching can work for you when you are hurt or weaker. In a fight you have to do what works and of course the fans who don't like you rather see you stand there and get knocked tha f#ck out. Ali, Oscar, Mayweather, Holmes, Norton and a few other greats used this tactic several ways.
That's why Haney doesn't sell. He excessive clinching, make the fight boring and he becomes unwatchable. They need to make a rule where they can only Clinch 3 time per round or less.
