How come heavyweights can get into boxing really late and be successful but the same doesn't work for the lower weights?

Like Wilder for example. He got into boxing really late.

because the physical challenges are MUCH MUCH less for heavyweights, so they can still compete at an advanced age. No worries about making weight. And they are not as active as the lighter weights. On average they throw about 25-30 punches per round (or less), compared to some of the lighter guys throwing 100 punches per round. Not to many even bother with footwork, they just plod around until they land something......

Same reason why a humming bird lives a shorter life than a crow.

Smaller talent pool which typically = less skill refinement as you go up the levels, because theres fewer levels to go up.

Also because they're big guys the general level of athleticism (speed, movement, workrate etc) isnt as good. So if you're a good athlete and/or have some power you can potentially do well.

Because their sheer size, strength and power can sometimes overcome the lack of skills and experience they would have gained from starting younger.

Technically skilled fighters don't attract views at heavyweight if the fighters seem slow paced, reason why now in days the division mostly relies on 80% more on athletic performance, not that there aren't technically skilled fighters at heavyweight.

Usyk who's a cruiserweight dominating much bigger giants is a sight to see.

Not sure about others but I would tune in for Butter Bean rather than Tyson Fury.

Other than watching his trilogy against Wilder I sadly can't actually manage to finish watching a fight involving him.

The heavyweight division is by far my favorite because it's got such historical depth and the physics of HW fighting is more to liking, but boxing, like as an art, they're pretty **** at.

Guys who are good HW, skill wise, we kind of exaggerate their abilities because it's so rare to see someone even competent compare to lower weight and what's really interesting there is that's true regardless of era.

Like today 150s are ****ing absurdly talented. Back in the olden days when 150 was HW they were slow and cumbersome like a 250 is now.

175ers, 160s, etc. we're used to seeing have both speed and power but they didn't always. In any era whatever the largest common fighter's size is, is always a bit uncoordinated and sloppy compared to the smaller sizes and as men get huger the number goes up but the lower classes do not stay stagnant.

What I'm saying is Ali actually ****** at boxing. Fury actually sucks at boxing. We say they're great because they are for their size in their time but the truth is HW's open to late comers because they have less catch-up to do.

Marciano was late too. At 185. Being late at 185 these days makes you a no hoper. Marciano was lucky to be in his era.

Giving Pump the business. He had a bad night or some ****. I was just ****ing around as I have done for over a decade.

I made a thread after the Devin-George fight asking if Haney hate was because of racism or anti-americanism. The thread errored when I check my notifications. I thought it was deleted until today when Jaded fixed it so I made another thread exactly the same and called Pump a **** licker.
