Well, thought they were going to possibly do this, but imagine demanding more than a $100m.

They'll never get that, but perhaps a few hundred thousand. I don't think Jake and Eddie ever work together again, even if I'm saying the obvious.

Yeah this is what I was referring to. While my career was in criminal law rather than civil tort law, defamation cases are usually opposed by 1st ********* arguments. The burden of matchroom attorneys will be to prove that Paul attempted to harm hearn’s business through his statements. I don’t think Hearn had a bad case at all but intent actually does matter, at least in the size of the judgment. Beauty of civil law is you only need preponderance of the evidence rather than beyond a reasonable doubt.
methinks this one gets settled somehow before trial. Trials, even civil lawsuits, can literally take years, sometimes decades. Paul is wealthy enough to have a savvy firm that will tie up the court for literally years. I’ve seen civil cases with 10-15 lawyers in each side take 8 years to even go to trial.

It’s an interesting way to duck the Serrano/Taylor rematch, that’s for sure

This will settle before court for something far less than $100 million. But it will effectively shut up Jake, and for good reason. Guy thinks he can say whatever he wants.

Bet Eddie will drop this is Serrano finally agrees to the rematch.

Interesting case. There's no doubt it's valid, though I'm sure a public apology from Paul and relatively insignificant damages will get the job done.

But boxing has always operated in verbal jousting that goes well beyond anything that is acceptable anywhere else. What comes next? Boxers and promoters are throwing shade on each other constantly... and it's to deliberately damage each other's reputation.

If a boxer alleges that another ducked them, could they sue and have the evidence looked at? This could be the thin end of the wedge.
