Why does Shakur have this stigma of being pillowfisted when he's hurt everyone he's been in the ring with as a 130 pounder?

What he doesn't have in power he has it with sharpness with his counters or combinations.
He hits hard enough that especially when they don't see the counter that the fighters have to think on their way in.
His defense and accuracy discourages his foes.

Valdez isn't a pressure fighter. Being the smaller counter puncher Valdez had no chance. GIven Valdezs vulnerable chin/ring wars and Shakurs pedigree one would think Shakur would've finished him.Comment

Shakur looked very sharp beating valdez, the guy he was supposed to beat unlike canelo beating ggg by looking sloppy and tired. Canelo couldn't finish an old fart who is right there to be abused, so what's your point?Comment

He switched his style after the criticism during the fight with the Nakatalia guy and started staying in the center of the ring and walking people down. Even so, he’s not going to get stoppages because he sits back and admires himself too much.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE POWER YOU HAVE TO THROW COMBINATIONS TO STOP OPPONENTS!
At 135, I anticipate he will be back on using his footwork more because there are some strong fast twitchy guys up there. Robson was able to tag him up pretty good and that’s only because he wants to get the stoppage or at least appear entertaining. To beat Loma, he will have to be way more dynamic. Especially being that Loma will be motivated because after the Teo fight Shakur said he fought scared.
I’d pay double to see that fight.
Shakur has to stop talking and get to work.

I prefer skillful boxers over just power punchers. But I prefer to see some power with those skills. Mayweather’s 27-0, 21 KO’s at 130 was a thing of beauty. His going up in weight and not having that pop anymore didn’t even matter. He had already shown us what a beast he was if he fights guys his own size.
But Featherfisted boxers end up getting in even more trouble when they step up to elite punchers. Malignaggi, Algieri, Peterson come to mind. They could fight someone they are more skilled than, and still end up getting walked over.
It’s going to be a while before we see Shakur take on a legitimate elite puncher because Arum is going to Arum. We will see Shakur vs an aging Lomachenko. We may even see Arum go outside of TR and make Shakur vs Kambosos, another light puncher.
But it’s highly unlikely that we see Shakur vs Tank or Garcia, because Arum is going to blame Eddie Hearn and DLH of being difficult when he’s the most difficult promoter to deal with. We may not even see Shakur vs Haney, another light puncher, because again, Arum is gonna Arum.
Shakur will be brought up like Terence Crawford. Good fighter, but will be matched to look like a superhero.Comment

Firstly, Arum will only do it if the profile matches or exceeds one of a Fury-Wilder level.
Secondly, he won’t have to…Haney is going to vacate all the belts at 135 and TR will grab at least two of them and that will keep Shakur happy for a while.
Thirdly, Shakur doesn’t have the fighting style to become more than an Andre Ward. 135lbs is going to be even less entertaining to the casual fans because all this talk about man strength and growing into power is bro science. Like you said Floyd for as brittle and ectomorphic as he was, was a killer at 130.
Shakur hasn’t demonstrated that natural strength or finishing ability in lesser and smaller opponents. He’s not going to do it in larger and more elite ones.
I do believe him and Loma is a ppv worthy fight for true boxing fans.Last edited by Punch on Tap; 09-27-2022, 10:10 PM.Comment
