any body else feels like marquez won?

after his career was handled like **** for years under top rank, he started getting better paychecks with golden boy. but none of them were anything like the one hes getting for this fight at the end of the day. hes going to cash in on a good 7 million or more when everything is said and done. im happy to see him making this kind of money, a man that always works his ass off, a man that has given us great fights and is still trying at age 36. no other fight at 135 and 140 was going to get him this kind of money and pac was not going to fight him again. i also think that this fight got him major exposure, so when he goes down in weight and if he is able to make big fights against those guys, a much larger audience will know who juan manuel marquez is because of the exposure you get in a mega fight, the media, 24/7, promotions, the actual fight, etc. i also feel good that the commentators and the media gave spot light to the fact that marquez came up in weight and was at a size disadvantage. i dont know, over all i just feel like marquez won.

Full respect to Marquez, he went in against the bigger man and gave it everything he had. This could be a stepping stone to other big money fights so at least some good might come out of it.

Thought HBO were slack not wanting to interview him, he had to seek them out himself for an interview to speak to his fans.

Wish I could feel the same. I hope this leads to bigger and better things for him some how.

        That pissed me off tremendously.

As a big Marquez fan I hate that it had to go down like that ; but I was at least looking forward to hearing him talk about his future plans.

Only to have HBO try to do him like that.

        Fuck HBO.

JMM deserved the payday and went up in my book respect wise, but as far as exposure and future earnings based on this fight...it was the wrong exposure. what casual fan will now pay to watch 'the guy that got schooled by mayweather'?

            Marquez will be alright.
The guy made a bunch of cash which he deserves (although I think he deserves even more) and once he gets down to a lower weight and starts putting the hurtin' on the top dogs, people will see what JMM can really do.

              Greatest warrior of this era!

Marquez is a boxing legend. Willing to do what others aren't and take the risks others aren't!

i dont think this fight helps him as much as some seem to think. dont get me wrong i love him but if i had never seen him fight before this fight it wouldnt make me itch to see him fight again. yes he'll get more money for his next fight but i question if it'll bring anymore fans than he already had. the marquez we saw wasnt the marquez we know.

                  good post.

and yes, i was thinking the same thing, i feel he won at the end of the day.

tell you the truth, i actually want to see him in there with soto, or a comeback for morales.

Yeah because even casual fans could see the giant size disparity from round 1.

I wouldn't say he got schooled, he was always in the fight, he just lost most of the rounds, but its not like it Mayweather ever had him hurt or in trouble.

I just rewatched booze free and JMM landed some real nice shots too.

Only an idiot would think this diminishes him in any way.
