seems like he is one of those elite journeymen, top class but never elite or best of the best
    not champion material

Ok, it’s finally time for that Aj vs Martin rematch we’ve all been waiting for. Now that they’re both at the same level, a couple of former champions who can’t beat the elite guys in the division, they need to run it back to see if the first fight was a fluke. The boxing world awaits.

I would say he is more of a fringe contender than journeyman. He is better than he gets credit for. He’s a top 20… His best win is Gerald Washington but he was in good slugfests against Ortiz & Kownacki…

Martin took the money & ran. He won the lottery when Glazkov blew out his knee. He looked for a place to lay down with a smile on his face

I think Martin could have beaten Kownacki if it was a 12 rounder. First half of that fight he had no confidence, towards the end Kownacki was fading fast.

Once he realized he could take Kownacki’s best shots he turned it on kind of like Mike Perez vs Carlos Takam. If it was 12 i felt Takam would have won as he took control once he felt he could take his best shots…

That's a blast from the past. I remember watching that fight (HBO I think) and was high on Perez at the time and that was the first time I had seen Takam fight. I was impressed with him.

                  Another blast from the past…
One of my favourite fight between 2 washed up HWs was Michael Grant vs Francois Botha… pretty good slugfest for a couple of guys near the end…Still to this day Botha was the first boxer I ever heard getting busted for steroids. He never came up with excuses. He admitted his guilt of cheating & said it cost him millions. He still got world title fights with Moorer & Lennox. He beat Axel Schulz for the vacant IBF belt only to get busted.

Haha. I loved Botha back in the day. I remember all of those fights (especially the Schultz fight). I went to Botha/Briggs in Atlantic City, thought he deserved the nod even tho the judges scored it a draw. The crowd was electric that night, helluva scrap.

Botha was a tough SOB but he often went to a gunfight with a knife but he would stand in the pocket & throw bombs. He was relentless to the body but he lacked the power to really do that against big punchers. Fearless fighter & the only HW who shared the ring with Tyson, Holyfield, Lennox & Wladimir Klitschko… The tennis grunts after every punch…
