Earnie Shavers was a straight up monster in the the ring, who gave us many great fights throughout his career, RIP.

I met Shavers in Vegas at an autograph session in a casino memorabilia shop that was totally empty. I complimented Shavers on drilling Holmes, and he laughed/bellowed, "Aww hell, I think I just made Larry made cuz he came back and got me!" It was awesome. Leon Spinks was there too, totally passed out in a chair. A few years prior to that I spent a couple of years hanging out w/ Leon at the bar Manhattans in Carol Stream, and we had talked on many occasions - so they encouraged me to wake him up and say hi. He didn't know WTF was going on at first, it was so sad. (it was also sad at Manhattans of all the a$$holes that bought him a drink just to they could clown on him and act foolish). Leon would get so f'd up his wife would literally drag him home across the street. But when he woke up he was very nice and he did remember me from Manhattans which was pretty cool. RIP to both legends of the sport.
