One thing a lot of the comments appear to forget is that fighters styles often change as they age, in particular styles like Golovkin’s. It happens in every sport. You train differently as you age, your punch resistance drops, you slow down. None of that suits a come forward style that’s reliant on your reflexes and defence being better than your opponent’s.
Golovkin has clearly adapted his style since the second fight with Canelo. He left Sanchez because he had no plan B. Sanchez was still ****ing on recently saying Golovkin needs to return to his old style which is clearly bitter rubbish as Golovkin’s ageing body can no longer play that game the same. He’s covering up more, throwing less and taking more shots, none of which is great going into a rematch with Canelo.
The one thing Golovkin does have over Canelo is potentially his engine. Canelo who’s been so reliant on his power does slow down in the second half of the fight a lot. If Golovkin can withstand the inevitable initial onslaught then I believe that’s his best chance. In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s his game plan - wind Canelo up to the point of rage so he goes flat out for the stoppage early and empties his tank in the process.
It should be noted that Golovkin has never been down let alone stopped in 350 amateur bouts and 44 professional ones. All those predicting a stoppage should remember that, the guy has one of the best chins in the sport. I think he’ll weather the storm but will loose on points, genuinely this time.
