How would you grade Mike Tyson’s resume?

His most memorable fights were against Tony Tucker, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Frank Bruno, James Douglas, Donovan Ruddock, Evander Holyfield, Andrew Golota, Brian Nielsen, and Lennox Lewis. IMO, I would give him a B- (3.5 stars). The rest of his resume are BUMS.

His resume is average at best and overhyped.

It's hard to knock his resume when talking about the guys who had belts. At the end of the day, that's who he had to fight.

His defences were otherwise a bit underwhelming, but who would you want him to fight at those times? He only really missed Evander, Bowe and Lewis... and obviously fought two of them later and lost.

I still think it's a B. Beat who he needed to beat to become Undisputed.

      How many have done that?

Mike Tyson doesn't have the greatest resume. He isn't one of the top 5 greatest heavyweights of all time. But one thing Mike Tyson is?

The most PHENOMENAL heavyweight of all time.

The 20 year old built like a bull who was knocking out men twice his size with incredibly fast, accurate and powerful punches and had an aura of invincibility which we have not seen before or since who had the entire world riveted by his ability and reputation, is enough to rank him high up in the history books.

It is easy to discredit his resume, when looking back in history.

But in the context of the time? He was beating the best fighters that were around, not just beating the obliterating them at times.

Who is doing that today? Nobody.

There are no active heavyweights active today, who are as great as Mike Tyson. As a fighter and definitely not as a Champion.

Tyson Fury has made 2 defenses of his Heavyweight titles, and has a total of 5 Championship fights.

Mike Tyson made 11 defenses of his Heavyweight titles, and has a total of 15 Championship fights.

Note: There was a thread, were a member here was claiming Tyson Fury as one of if not the greatest Heavyweight fighter of all times. I entered that thread and basically just listed the defenses and Championship fights of past Heavyweights 'Tyson Fury was miles off'.

Mike Tyson has 1 all-time great super elite win 'His Victory over Michael Spinks', and then he has a collection of world class wins as a champion.

I am debating whether to add Larry Holmes as a all-time great win, it probably is a underrated win for Mike Tyson 'Overlooked'.

Holmes years later was beating Ray Mercer, and going the distance with Evander Holyfield.

I'm way too lazy to look up the Ring Magazine rankings for all of his fights so I'll be lazy and just pick out world titlists:
W vs Alfosno Ratliff TKO 2
W vs Trevor Berbick TKO 2
W vs James Smith UD 12
W vs Pinklon Thomas TKO 6
W vs Tony Tucker UD 12
W vs Larry Holmes TKO 4
W vs Tony Tubbs TKO 2
W vs Michael Spinks KO 1
W vs Frank Bruno TKO 5
L vs Buster Douglas KO 10
W vs Frank Bruno TKO 3
W vs Bruce Seldon TKO 1
W vs Frans Botha KO 5 (technically Botha isn't recognized as champion since he was stripped for PEDs, but he did win a title in the ring)
L vs Evander Holyfield TKO 11
L vs Evander Holyfield DQ 3
              NC vs Orlin Norris 1
L vs Lennox Lewis KO 8

Overall record against world titlists: 12-4-0-1 with 10 KO

Obviously some of these guys were cruiserweight titlists, not heavyweight titlists. And obviously some of them were washed up or weak titlists.

But nobody beats 12 world titlists by accident. I don't care who they are.

They more objective way to measure his resume would be to look at the Ring Magazine rankings for all of his fights but that's way too much work for a forum post.

A little blip here and there but he fought who he was supposed to fight, just compare him to the nonsense that is going on in boxing now. A- (4 legit hall of fame fighters on his resume)

                  Way too many tomato cans
Faced the weakest bunch of champs
Lost to his only top tier opponents....SOUNDLY.

I can't think of anyone he beat that any other HW couldn't.

Besides Holmes (who was lounging on the sofa for almost 2 years)...what other HOFers did he beat ?
