Thurman vs Stanionis- Spence vs Crawford Co Main Event

So we heard today that Spence vs Crawford is hopefully close to being signed and delivered soon. It makes sense for Thurman vs Stanionis to fight for the WBA regular as the co-main event.

Thurman is looking for a title fight and big money. He has already had very big gate numbers, and sold big PPV numbers with PAC. He’s a very good name as a co-main. Stanionis was mentioned as already going to be on this card. Boots is an option but Thurman is the big name.

Who do you have winning in this matchup?

I have Keith “Off Time” Thurman out boxing and out working Stanionis to a unanimous decision. Stanionis is really good and will win middle rounds with his timing and technique. But I think Thurman work rate, power, and movement will give him the win. 116-112 or 115-113. No knockdowns.

That is very true. But just the circumstances he’s in. He wants Spence or Crawford and wants a belt. Obviously they’re fighting each other. He doesn’t want to fight Boots for no belt. This fight would be perfect for him. Plus he can get a small percentage of the PPV to get the money he wants.

Not financially viable. There’s not enough $ generated to satisfy all 3 names. I know Crawford & Spence will do good numbers on their own so why sacrifice any profits on Thurman.

based on WBA Rankings it should be Ortiz or Boots

Thurman will not be Co-Main with anybody nor should he be, I'm all for Thurman traveling to the UK and Humbling and embarrassing Benn in front of his own people

From I seen it will be Boots vs Stanionis on the undercard

The WBA are bending over backwards to accommodate someone becoming "undisputed" at 147. I would almost have rather seen that belt consolidated before Spence - Crawford.

Agreed! Too much ego and there's no way Keith is taking short money nowadays. That's just who he is.

I had to tell a village idiot in that Craword/Spence thread earlier today because he spewed Vergil Ortiz's name as a candidate for the cofeature....knowing this is NOT how boxing works- especially when you're talking about purses.

I see if Floyd was the main event...I'm sure they could pony up some cash to have a high profile cofeature on the card like he did for Garcia vs Matthysse on his undercard against Canelo.

It seems as though they had the ride of their lives trying to get the money to make this fight happen...aint no way they can afford to add other guys on the card who are accustomed to walking away with 7 figures.

Thurman/Staonionis DOES make sense as the cofeature but we still have to look at the dollar signs and that's usually the sticking point for most big fights not happening.
