Lennox ducked Bowe?

Arguing about the tedious stories of purse bids, offers, negotiations etc. is one thing.
But just look at their track records. Lewis, for his whole career, sought the biggest challenges and names and fought many. The up and coming young Yankee punchers like Grant, Briggs. Killers like Tua, Ruddock, Morrison, Klitschko. He chased after Holyfield and Tyson for years untill he finally got them. Which HW has ever fought more dangerous punchers than Lennox Lewis? Maybe Muhammed Ali, no one else. Even the two guys who managed to drop him, Lewis sought out the rematches like a mad man and avenged the defeats.
Now take a look at Rid**** Bowe. He fought the great Evander Holyfield 3 times who he had a massive size advantage over. Who else? He was in the strongest or second strongest HW era EVER and look at his record? Who the hell did the fight those years he held the belt and was in his prime? Even Andrew Golota was a cherry pick gone horribly bad.
Compare their records, look at who was more willing to face the toughest opponents. Then ask yourself who was more likely to duck who between Lewis and Bowe?
Lewis is one of the all time greats. Bowe is one of the biggest wastes of talent, had no hunger for greatness at all. Part of that is because he ducked Lewis.Comment

Just because it's news to you that there were negotiations beforehand doesn't mean that it's news to everyone here.
As buddyr and others have said, there is more, much more to the story.
I was of the same ilk, appears I was wrong and misled all these years. I am willing to accept it, as should you.
Of course there were negotiations. I'm just not sure why you think fighters not agreeing terms is solely Lewis' fault.
Rumour has it Newman was offering 10%, which Lewis rejected. Turned down a counter offer. Then offered a winner takes all purse, which Lewis accepted... but Newman had no intention of doing it.
A purse split would have been pretty generous to the champion, but Newman wasn't going to lose control of his fighter.
At the end of the day you fight your mandatories or you get stripped. Bowe, advised by his lunatic manager, chose to drop the belt. That's a duck.Comment

- - Lewie who was never all that already disposed of Big Dummy in the Olympics and then Big Dummy disposed his WBC in the trash bin, so anything afterwards is just thugtime meanderings not worthy of credibility.Lennox was offered 8 figures on two different occassions and he turned it down both times.
I guess I never saw their amateur fight, but I can't seem to figure out why the ref took a point from Bowe and why the fight was stopped. Wow, crazy!
Below is shitty quality, but all the other videos are unavailable, m,ust be some sort of copyright.

Another fact that is constantly ignored that lennox dropped his belts instead of fighting Byrd and Ruiz. Now I'm sure he would have beat both Byrd and Ruiz. There is no doubt in my mind of that, but the fact is that he gave up his belts and didn't fight them.Comment

here are posts from years ago I'm talking about Lewis turning down the fight
You are aware that Lewis turned down a $10 million fight with Bowe around the same time that history has purposely erased. Also, Lewis, doing the same thing as bowe, dropped both of his belts to keep from fighting Ruiz and Byrd. Now I don't think Lewis ducked Byrd and Ruiz because he would have beat both, but he didn't let organizations dictate who and when he was to fight. Same thing happened in Bowe/Lewis situation. Lewis turned down the $10 million and the WBC was trying to dictate the terms of the fight so Rock Newman had bowe trash their title. If I'm lying about Lewis not fighting(or ducking as you guys call it) Byrd and Ruiz, just let me know..
We have got to stop spreading misinformation. For almost 30 years people have told this same lie. Lewis was offered a contract and turned it down. The WBC stepped in and tried to control the process and Bowe trashed the belt before being stripped( no different than when Lewis gave up his belts to not fight Byrd or Ruiz, 2 guys he would have beat). Then they were planning on fighting again but Lewis was Ko’d by McCall. The fight just wasn’t meant to be, but people never tell the WHOLE story. All they want to discuss is Bowe throwing the WBC in the trash and that’s only a part of it.
If you want to say Bowe ducked Lewis, fine, but you gotta say Lewis ducked Ruiz and Byrd, no matter how ****** it sounds. Btw, I’m not chastising you at all. I was disappointed the fight didn’t happen.Comment
