  • What's the best locker room approach for boxers?

Personally I like Cornelius bundrage philosophy, k9 says he tries to be still all day and not waste any energy
Then there's guys like atlas "mobility negates nervousness" the most standard procedure, look busy, stay loose, jump rope , warm up.

Then there's the amateur style. While both guys are in the same locker room, the coach diliberatly smashes the hand pads to scare the opponent, like when Tyson knocked down a locker when he was in the junior Olympics "when he opened up like a mother effer!''

Then there's guys like rocky marciano-sleep alot and sleep some more, stay relaxed.

What about Hopkins? Allowing HBO to interview him beforehand as he stated he doesn't treat it like a death chamber lol.

And then there's guys like hoya who prepare before the fight by looking above the opponent and turning backward on the turn buckle- seemed to work well for him.

And lastly nonito Donaire says never watch eyes, eyes can lie.,. But that's another topic for another day!

There is no universal best only what suits the individual.

Lennox Lewis used to bring a bed with him to the venue and rest as much as he could the day of the fight.

I’d probably lie in as late as I could, then stay active and work the nerves over the couple of hours before the fight.

          Everyone’s got their own way, I don’t think there’s a better way.

Carl Froch said he used to be very nervous in the changing room and didn’t want any commotion

Tyson Fury puts music on and has a dance

the aforementioned Lennox Lewis liked to have a sleep, I believe Ali did too sometimes.

Floyd always had celebrities coming in to meet him

That's true eh? Floyd and Manny were experts in dealing with distractions... Didn't Floyd fight Cotto the next day he went to jail? That right there is called complete feat of composure. Also Manny was able to mix it up between boxing politics and basketball. The reason I say this is because most people whether reside on either PAC or money, I'm just calling it like it is, matter of fact didn't Pacquiao watch ball in his locker before the fight started?

Begs the question: how early did Lennox arrive at the venue to have time to take a nap then do all the prefight warm up and getting changed and wrapped?

I think basketball is why the first Bradley fight was delayed. I know they say Pac was still warming up in his dressing room but I believe there was a NBA game that was finishing up. But Floyd's ability to compartmentalize and shut out all distractions was solid, one of the best in the game at doing that. Around that time there was always some sort of circus/calamity going around Floyd and every time he successfully shut it out on fight night.

Just googled it and apparently he’d just get there early enough to have a two hour sleep before warming up. So not ridiculously early seeing as headlining boxers tend to arrive half way through a card these days.

Yeah, I don’t think it was exactly the next day he went to jail but I remember his jail sentence got postponed for the fight and he was heading to jail pretty soon after.

Floyd has an incredible mentality in the ring though. I think only a truly elite athlete can put an insane distraction like that aside and perform. You’re probably talking a handful of athlete in world sport, in my opinion.
