Bigger fight: Cotto vs Margarito 1 or Crawford vs Spence?

    What's your thoughts?

I was excited at the Cotto vs Marg build up. Similar to now with Crawford vs Spence

It's not even close...not at all..... It's very rare to have a undisputed 147 fight with two undefeated p4P fighters.

Crawford vs Spence Junior is the biggest all American fight since Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield I.

The biggest and most significant fight.

Cotto vs Margarito I & II was awesome. The face off for the second fight, was the best face off interview.

Cotto seemed terrified of Margarito, terrified but showing plenty of courage 'Facing off with his nightmare'.

I thought Margarito could of fought on in the second fight, they should of let the fight continue until somebody was ****** out etc.

Miguel Cotto before the first Margarito fight, seemed cyborg like, very cold and hard. But after that fight, you could see his emotions in a fight.

Cotto for the rest of his career, was fighting through that trauma.

Anthony Joshua has been in a similar situation. Cotto's lost to Margarito was more brutal.

I think Cotto-Margo 1 is bigger because even with social media at an all time high now..spence-crawford should be freaking HUGE!!! but neither has the following of Cotto combined

Margarito always was in the shadows. He had a small but vocal fanbase that tended to push others like Floyd to fight him. He was a tough fight on any given day for sure. So in fact what made the first Cotto Margarito fight so special was: 1. Margarito Winning 2. The way Margarito allegedely won the fight. Most people expected Cotto to win a bruising fight.

Crawford versus Spence is a genuine Gold Standard fight for fans that appreciate the skills and what it takes to be in a division that has an incredible competative tradition.

Its different, cotto-margo has bigger build up, they were bigger stars and had the huge latino fan base, you had the mexican vs puerto rican build up to that one too. But you also had floyd and pac that era and it wouldnt prove who is the best welterweight.

Crawford-spence would prove who is the best welterweight, would be for undisputed (i think) and both undefeated. but its been so long interest has died down them them in their 30s and havent fought all this time and they dont have the same fan base that cotto and margo had.

if it was the UFC we would have had crawford-spence and bivol-beterbiev 3 years ago already, this is an area where mma is better than boxing. it shouldnt be this ***ing difficult to get the best to fight each other.

Should be Crawford/Spence but they’ve marinated this fight nearly to death

Floyd was “retired” and Manny was at the lower weights. Marg-Cotto was huge at the time. We didn’t have to wait forever like we’ve been doing for Crawford-Spence either which was nice.

I just hope Spence-Crawford turns out to be as good as Marg-Cotto was if it ever happens.

Yeah but once that press tour starts the interest will sky rocket.

It was a deeper era back then with more excitement for casuals and there was Manny May driving it on the heels of Oscar's popularity, today they have all the belts and its a great fight but the pandemic slowed the momentum of the sport and now its treading water with not a real lot of buzz within the casuals, the real fan is always there, the trick to making it really big is to hook the casuals, the world is in a slowdown at the moment it will take a while to get another boom like it was during the last era, Floyds huge numbers were because of that boom, they cant get near them today with the world economic downturn.
