Having an advantage in the ring is a little different than having a complimentary or different style versus an opponent. Forest has a rangy southpaw, I think he was southpaw, has certain inherent advantages like reach. Now, it becomes a stylistic issue insofar as how Vernon Forrest chooses a style that emphasizes his attributes. So one would not expect to see forest fighting inside a lot.
