    Mayweather-Marquez: The Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - The vacation is over.

    The return is here.

And if the images from the weigh-in are any indication, Floyd Mayweather picked wisely in selecting his comeback opponent. Juan Manuel Marquez has a name. Mayweather, who reigned as Welterweight champion before vacating the crown for some time off, looked cut and ready. Weighing in as a Welterweight for the first time, Marquez had a little extra gristle on his sides. By any other standard, he’s in phenomenal shape. [details]

I hate it when Cliff is right, only when he goes against my favorite fighter. but truth is, Marquez just isn't big enough to fight an elite welterweight. And that's what Floyd is plain and simple. My heart wants Marquez to win badly, but my boxing brain whimpers out Mayweather's name through the muffled cries of disappointment.

i am neither a fan of both but i wager for uglyboyfloyd.

but if marquez wins, its alright.

even if it means losing a few hundred bucks.

i just hope the two come to fight, not just counterpunching and the other running.

as much as i dont think has a chance to beat pbf im happy for marquez, for once hes on the big stage where he belongs, hes going to earn alot of money and even when he losses, his reputation will not be harmed because pbf has all the advantages and weather u like him or not he is an elite fighter and marquez will give him a good fight.

So are people going to feel the same when and if Mayweather gets in the ring with Pac?

Are the same people "wanting" the fight to happen going to say after the fact that Pac was too small too and it wasn't fair and that Mayweather always picks on the smaller guys and that Pac never had a chance, and that Mayweather had all the advantages etc etc etc????

I don't see Pac getting passed Cotto but thats beside the point. Most people are so hyped for a Mayweather Pac fight that they are just assuming Pac will get by Cotto. IMO no matter what people say Pac is no REAL WW and neither is JMM. Neither of them proved anything at this weight. The DESTROYED Hatton and the "OLD" Zombie De La Hoya can not be factored in.....

Just because Pac "looked good" vs them does NOT mean he is proven. Jones looked good at HW vs Ruiz, did that make him a legit HW??? Hell no he would have been crushed VS TOP HW's. The same goes for Pac. Cotto is Pac's TRUE test. So people that say Mayweather vs JMM is not OK but Mayweather vs Pac is, are wrong.

Its not hate. I understand why people hate Mayweather. I just don't understand why people think its OK for Mayweather to fight Pac but NOT JMM. I don't think he should be fighting either. EVERYONE always complains about him fighting smaller foes. Well WTF is Pac? He's no REAL WW or he would be fighting Cotto at the WW limit. It should be Mayweather vs Cotto/Mosley. I know money talks and that's Mayweather Pac but in the end it will be a complete circle of people crying about weight and him fighting the smaller guys all over again. It never ends.

Pac is GREAT and one of my favorites but he is not Mayweather GREAT. Mayweather/Cotto/Mosley all beat little man Pac. The great PACMAN should be fighting JMM for the third time, just as Jones should be fighting Hopkins for a second time. Or Lewis fighting Klit for the second time (if we had a time machine) and the list could go on I guess but hey that's just me. I'm a fan of Mayweather's I want a BIG WW in there so people will STFU already. When Mayweather beats Pac (if they fight) it will only add fuel to the fire.... people will still not be satisfied. Probably never will be... so who cares really..
