  • I want to be fair to Berlanga, because this was his most dangerous opponent to date, whom had only been beaten by undefeated champions.
Although many on this, and other boxing platforms had knocked his opponent as being too old, stationary, and inactive.
I'm sure that Benavides, and Ramirez the two world champions who had previously beat Angulo in defense of their titles wouldn't agree with them.
As they had to go deep into the later rounds, and fight like heck in order to secure a win against the so called old, stationary, inactive Angulo.
That said I did see an over cautious, tentative, and at times a Berlanga that seemed like he was questioning whether he belonged where he found himself.
I might be overly critical of Berlanga considering the caliber of his opponent, but I was expecting him to box more aggressively, and take more chances than he did.
I also thought that his new trainer was wrong to tell him forget about the crowd they already paid for their ticket's, don't take any chances go out and box the last round.
Berlanga did box, but his punches weren't thrown with the conviction that produced all of his earlier knockout's, lets see how he does in his next fight.

Nothing more to see IMO. I tried giving him a chance but I just can't anymore. The hype doesn't match the skills. Too many flaws in his game. He is delusional and thinks he has made it to the big leagues without even winning a title. There is no humility. The guy called himself a "Monsta" beating tomato cans and now has made an excuse for every fight since then as the level of competition has increased. Biting, low blows, head butting and constantly looking at the big monitor shows me a guy frustrated and easily distracted. Top Rank and his managers will continue protecting him until its time to throw him to the wolves.

          • Look... Not every Puerto Rican fighter can be a Miguel Cotto. A lot of these guys come up with talent... I was a big fan of Juan Ma, and I love the way Puerto Rican and Cuban fighters come up... In NYC, on the Island... Grandpa has his grand kids in the gym learning the basics. These guys grow up with a real atmosphere and taste for the Sweet Science. But there are levels to the game, and while a lot of guys have talent, there are other aspects as well.

it is a shame that the bouts are so fixed... I didn't see this fight, but it sounds like it was close and that they want to make a statement that Berlanga passed the test...when he was exposed in some regards.

That night is nearly reserved for a proven PR Star/Champion and since we don't have one, then nobody should get it. Go earn it first by winning a title. Xander Zayas is the only guy that has potential right now. If TR is going to do event like this to showcase young fighters, Zayas should be headlining it and Berlanga should be lost somewhere in the undercard.

if I could give 50 thumbs up to this I would lol Xander is the only PR fighter that seems to have most of the goods. I still see him as a developing fighter and i see flaws and wrinkles in his game but a lot of those wrinkles can be ironed out with time and more training.

Berlanga is just lost. He needs a whole new trainer and to start completely over again if that's even possible. to me he started boxing well in the first couple of rounds ( gotta give him that) then it was one punch get hit and run like he didn't understand the concept of countering and moving. Like Tim said lots of combos/ counters that were left on the table and never taken by Berlanga.

This turd is melting and i dont think any amount of polish is going to make it look good enough to sell off. i say feed him to Benavidez for a Mex vs PR early show down and cash out on his ass. if he for some reason throws a punch and wins (which is a 1000:1 lol) then you made more then you could of ever made with him.
