Oscar went to insane lengths to protect Canelo. This article sort of proves it.

Build a cash cow. Protect him at all costs including cheating scandals. Keep the hype going. Monetise for as long as possible.

“It was a lose-lose situation for everyone. Nobody knew Bivol whatsoever. I would’ve promoted Bivol to make him a bigger name because nobody knew who he was before he fought Canelo."

          As easy as that, eh?

How many unknown Russians has Oscar made into big names in the US so far?

BS. clenelo got clenelo beat. He thought it would be easier to face Bivol than the severe threat fights with Charlo, Benavidez and Andrade. He chose that coward route himself and the cherry pick backfired.

De La Hoya is everything that's wrong with boxing today. A hater and anti-competitive.

These statements just support su****ions that Golden Boy fixes fight cards.

Everyone seems to be missing the point ODH is trying to make. If you’re putting the cash cow in a fight that risky, make it against someone with real buzz. Benavidez, Charlo, Trip G, Joe Smith in NY. He was never going to receive big praise if he’d won so why take that fight at that time. As risky as that fight was, it wasn’t even perceived as such by hardcore fans. I’m not advocating cherry picks, but he could’ve fought a less risky Benavidez and the perceived threat would’ve be higher, therefore generating more buzz.

It was not a big fight. There where much bigger and better match ups for Alvarez.

                    Golovkin, Charlo, Benavidez etc..

You said it, I believe Ike Quartey was a tough, unknown fighter that a lot of fighters ducked. Oscar’s fight with Quartey was legendary. A lot of 147-154 lbs fighters didn’t want to take on the high risk low reward Bazooka, in my opinion.
