  • Solid win by Haney outboxing Kambosos in his homeland. Haney has talent without question, but his style is terrible from an entertainment perspective. He is hard to watch and holds way too much. I fully respect Tim Bradley but to hear him gush about Haney being a “young master” is tough because Haney puts people to sleep and doesn’t land many effective punches beyond his jab. He has good speed and balance and an excellent jab but has no pop in his punches and his constant clutching and holding is very difficult to watch at times.

This reminds me of the second half of Wlad’s reign. So many folks still talk about how bad the Fury/Wlad affair was, but I loved it because it marked the end of the reign. Effective does not always translate to enjoyable!

I agree dude. This is my issue with Haney. He is very gifted but professional boxing is supposed to be entertaining and watching Haney jab, move and hold all night can be unwatchable. I think he is talented enough to modify his style for more effective aggression but I suspect the way he was rocked against Linares, he is chinny and we will get more of the same. He doesn’t seem to have much power either.

      • Wow! What a performance! Still Kambosos was tough. Great win for Haney and congratulations to him on becoming Undisputed at Lightweight!

        • Don't rate this achievement by Haney at all... Back in the days undisputed actually meant something and was held by the elite of the elite. Nowadays you have the likes Josh Taylor and boring Haney calling themselves undisputed. I'll give Jermell Charlo his flowers though - he has wiped out the best in his division. 75% of the undisputed title Haney holds was won by other people?!

Lomachenko would absolutely batter Haney - I really hope that fight gets made!

Haney can punch plenty, he's still not got his man strength and if you can win your fights with your jab, why risk it? Like a lot of these young guys he belongs at 140, Dan cove gave an excellent analysis of why this is...

This was never going to be a real challenge to Haney... He never had to get out of first gear. Haney is a talent. He could well lose a fight, or three, because, like Cruz, why beat tank imo, both guys are still really young! Both guys are learning to fight in the big leagues and not coming in as Ammys going into their thirties!

Both guys can fight without a big punch... Yet. So when they develop punching power... Look out.

Haney has been willing to fight all comers. I agree these titles mean shiat, but Haney did what he had to do to put a bullseye on his a s s so some of these guys come hither.

Lomo battering Haney? No. One fight may let lomos amateur pedigree talents get him a win. But over a few fights, When Haney gets a bit more experience he will beat the likes of loma.

Like Canelo losing to Floyd... Haney is young, can afford to lose a few fights and learn. Loma lost because eventually he fought a strong guys trained primary as professionals vis a vis amateur, who could punch hard, didn't care about the subtle graces of Lomas approach... Think Taylor to Hopkins...

Devin will have that capacity and so much more... So yeah tomorrow? Loma would probably win... But if Loma thinks he will take Haney out in a few years, or so... I doubt it.

I had previously said Haney should do same thing Loma did to him.

Forget the pettiness. Haney and Loma are the 2 best LW’s imo. I want to see them fight next.
loma and tank are the best and neither is holding a belt. i think loma beats haney, he doesn't have to worry about haney's power like he did vs teo who is as big as devin. loma has the footwork to get inside his jab.

IMO, Haney has not shown he can punch. He moves too much to get leverage on his shots and I didn’t see him even slightly buzz Kambosos all night. Haney is a very gifted boxer but he stinks the arena out in terms of entertainment value. Kambosos is a counter puncher who is considerably smaller than Haney which stylistically made for a dull fight but Haney takes zero risks and doesn’t try to hurt his opponents. Guys like Haney spoil what could have been a big night for boxing internationally. There will be no stadium rematch here as nobody wants to see this crap again.

There's a reason why you still have to fight, to prove you are the best and this division has become musical chairs. I've got Shakur Stevenson over Haney and will put money down on that one.
