There’s no point in being undisputed if you think about it

The alphabet boys just strip the champ anyway or make them defend against absolute no hopers that have no business getting in there while paying the champ almost nothing. It’s becoming a bad decision to be undisputed.

It's an incredible sporting achievement. For some that may be enough reason but for plenty it's not that desirable.

Think about it. We've had a resurgence of the heavyweight division hoping to find out who is definitively, undisputedly the best. Networks have invested big in being placed for the eventual Undisputed fight... The journey has been worth more money to more fighters, promoters, orgs, managers, sponsors, networks, and hangers on than the destination fight would be. It's given years of entertainment, column inches, debate amongst fans and PPVs.

Guys like Wilder became big news with no real notable wins. Ortiz, Breazeale, Wallin, Whyte, Ruiz... they all got big fights and reputations for being the guy in the way of the mega fight. Half of them hadn't done much of note - but suddenly anyone in or around the top 10 was viable with multiple champions and Undisputed contenders.

Why go to the 'catch' when the 'chase' goes for longer and is more rewarding and interesting?

And, as you say, once someone gets there they get stripped anyway. Even for the orgs the belts lose their worth once they are held by someone who we definitively know isn't really the champion.

Undisputed is hard to make happen and it simply isn't in that many people's interest.

It's the only true championship in all of boxing history is a pretty good reason.

Only when there's an undisputed is there a clear single best of the division. Lineal has never done that. Obviously being a belt holder doesn't do that either.

Exactly. It's the only way to be a champion. Anything less is just a titlist.

              Is it though?

So many non-champs picking up belts off of vacants and positioning.

Yes, I know, but to be undisputed you must have gathered the belts or beaten some world champions.

Lineal off a vacant? Look at Wlad....whoo, so impressive how Ring made up some nonsense to award him a title.

Single straps off a vacant? Bermane, Charles, not exactly ATG champion my dude.

Both those avenues do not mean you had to prove a damn thing. At least an undisputed gathered the vacancies or beat other champions in a division where no one else gathered belts or beat champions.

Simply put, no matter how you slice it to achieve undisputed you did more than non-undisputed champions of your era.
