This "hate speech" nonsense, along with a lot of other woke bullshit, spread to the UK from the US. Because we don't have a written constitution to protect our rights as citizens we are more vulnerable to it than Americans.

We now have something in the UK called "non-crime hate incidents" (NCIs).

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/0...e-full-orwell/

What this means is that if a person is offended by something said to them by some-one else and they believe it was motivated by ethnic/racial or religious bigotry, misogyny or transphobia, they can report the incident to the police and the police will identify the "perpetrator" and keep a permanent record of the incident.

They have been known to visit people and warn them about their behaviour, even though they did nothing illegal. But the worse thing about NCIs is that a person can have a NCI on their record without even knowing about it. You can't be prosecuted for it, because you haven't broken the law, but having a NCI on your record can prevent you from getting certain jobs or holding positions of public trust.

          What a joke
The Great Nash is from the northeast and gets called pet at shops, etc, often. Nash does not get offended and tell them to call me the Great Nash. Ridiculous. Nash out.

he’s from the north east of England, they call everyone “pet” there, it’s a friendly term, like they use it in shops when saying thankyou or something, “thanks pet” - it’s part of the vocabulary where he’s from. It’s said in a polite/endearing way. They all use it.

anyone visiting the place he’s from will be called it 10 times a day at least.
Ah ok, I wasn't familiar with the lingo there. That makes this even worse. Same here in the states, the war on pronouns and words when there are far more serious offenses taking place each day.

Which leads me to believe he said more than "pet"

The article doesn't actually state what went down.

As an experiment call the police and say the crime was someone calling you pet. I bet they laugh at you

the term 'pet' is used commonly in newcastle. it's literally associated with the accent. like when liverpudians say 'mate'.

I can't believe the law put him through that for calling women "Pet". I lived in the UK for a couple of years and never heard of anyone getting offended by that term. Now, "Bleedin' tart", that's another story!
