But Canelo has never really jabbed. What I saw differently in the fight was that Canelo was headhunting a lot more than usual. His body punching was almost non-existent. Bivol had such a tight guard that it looked pointless to go after his head. Had he gone to the body, he would have made him drop that guard and then go upstairs in the later rounds.

Also, Canelo looked flabby in the mid-section. Anyone else notice that? He kinda looked chunky, not his usual look. Even vs Kovalev.

It’s all speculation though. He may jab, go to the body, come in better shape and still lose in the rematch.

Canelo would be soundly outjabbed by Bivol and still lose.
But that would be a different strategy. Not the ones Reynoso picked for Canelo.

Canelo is 5'9 and doesn't have along reach!!!! If the jab lands he's in the danger zone, Bivol has fast enough hands, good movement and foot speed to take advantage of this, Canelo realized it! You saw it when he went to his corner and did that thing where he's kicking dirt/the mat with both feet waiting for the stool and folks to get out of the way (annoyed, frustrated and impatient)... at that point the fight was over in my book.

Canelo needed to fight with a Mike Tyson style to win. He couldn't get near. His head movement is not enough for Bivols super accurate and fast jab.

I didn't think it was an upset either. I predicted it. But I guess the casual fans didn't see it coming .... or even the possibilty of it happening. Real boxing fans should have known that Bivol was gonna be a seriously live dog in there.

I don't agree that a jab would have saved Canelo on Saturday night. He didn't have much trouble getting on the inside by walking down and backing Bivol up without the jab; Especially in the early rounds. The problem with Alvarez was that Dmitry couldn't feel his punches.

He punched himself out by throwing a lot of punches that didn't land against a much stronger opponent. In addition, both his lack of size and power hurt him in this matchup as well. It was Canelo Alvarez who was getting gassed, backed up and hurt by Bivol.

Who used both his height, reach and size advantage to keep Canelo at bay while utilizing both his jab, crosses and hooks with his fast combination punches. The only punch Dmitry lacked that night was the uppercut.

Had he thrown and landed that punch; i am more than a little convinced that he would have gotten Canelo out of there by knocking him out.

Canelo was the one who landed some pretty nasty uppercuts beginning of the fight all those powershots made him tired 2nd half he was done and yes unfortunately he doesn't have enough pop to keep bivol at bay who is well established LHW not case for ginger though

Actually Canelo went for the body quite a bit but Bivol timed it by using footwork and catching with his bicep/elbow. Heck, at one point Bivol was literally trap countering Canelo’s hooks upstairs and downstairs on the ropes.
