exactly fell in love with his power
Been saying this for a while. Canelo has fallen in love too much with his power (and to some extent his chin). How he fought rd 9 vs Bivol is how he used to fight the entire fight; and it was beautiful. As is, he just sits there taking punches now waiting to get the KO, it cost him.
If Canelo can get back to his old ways, I'd give him a better than average shot at taking down Bivol, I just don't know if he can regain that, and have it at Lt Heavy.
Dude was trying to blast him early and looked tired, he needs to pace himselfComment

Yeah it almost seems like he’s regressed. His defense consists of a high guard and pulling straight back. His jab wasn’t there like tyson said and i also didn’t see much body work. Just loading up on right hooks and uppercuts. Where’s the fantastic head movement he used to show?
There were a number of things I thought were worrisome when watching Canelo's performance.
No jab, not setting up his punches, just relying on single power shots everytime, lack of upper body movement, he got caught several times because he didn't keep his hands up after punching..
Quite a few things that have been missing actually since the Saunders fight.
One thing I notice from Russian and Ukrainian fighters, they will never sacrifice technical discipline for power. Usyk is the same, technical disciplined til the last round.
When Bivol throws, his other hand is by his cheek, Canelo doesn't do this. He is wide open.
And aging..yes. I hope I am wrong and it's just because of the weight but looking at photos of the fight today he looks quite old and a bit worn out. Strange
Next fight will tell a lot (also about the quality of Reynoso as a trainer). I hope that he takes a honest look at his perfomance and learns from it.

I don’t think size is that much an issue. Canelo looks fine at this weight, but he’s just an also ran (to be harsh) in a division which has Bivol in it. The quality compared to SMW is higher in terms of boxing ability and Bivol beats him at SMW, too. Hell, I say Bivol would even beat him he was a natural MW
True. Even Bivol admitted that Canelo has some power. But still not enough to keep him off him. I don't see Canelo besting him either in a rematch. Bivol is just too big and too good for Canelo. Canelo ran into a brick wall and found out that weight classes exist for a reason. Against an elite level 175 pounder, Canelo can't ****. I'd never say never, but it's unlikely that Canelo beats any top 175 pounder.
But you’re right on one thing: the weight class issue rears it head when it comes to KO power. In that case, Canelo has to mix his game up, and he has the ring intelligence to do this. Ok, he can’t take Bivol out with a punch. Try accumulation, and maybe stop aiming for the KO. He’s gotten too used to this and come unstuck. Bivol’s a top echelon fighter, so he needs something else.Comment

Don't know if I need my eyes checked but I have never seen Canelo be a jabber in any of his fights. If anything, trying to become one in a single training camp opens him up to hooks and crosses from Bivol.Comment
