While I wouldn't say that Canelo had an off night, this was the first time that I've seen him attempt to throw punches and than pull back in a long time. There were at least 3 instances in which he aborted pulling the trigger mid motion in last night's fight. I wouldn't say he turned old last night, because I don't think he did. But this is the first time that I looked at Canelo and felt that he's lost a step. He's had quite a few seemingly easy fights as of late, but the preparation and heavy ring activity might be taking a toll on Canelo.

Odd that there was a rematch clause in this one. The champion defends his title and now he may have to defend again. Usually it’s about a champion losing his title getting a rematch. But hey, a contract is a contract and they don’t call them “rematchroom” for nothing. On another note, I’m sure young Edward is extremely happy for the fighter he represents, Bivol, for winning the biggest fight of his career. I’m sure this means Bivol will get the glowing eyes full of love and big money fights yeah?Comment

This might make the GGG rubber match a little more anticipated...
I thought before last night that Canelo would really finish GGG in the 3rd go, but Canelo dropping in weight, combined with his looking a little less invincible, makes me think it might be more compettive...
Either way, i think they should make this one sooner rather than later. GGG wasnt exactly specatacular himself against Murata.
Canelo SHOULD NOT fight Bivol or any other light heavies...Beterbiew and possibly Joe Smith would really hurt him.Comment

Didn't see the fight but just watched the highlights and looked really off. He looked really sluggish, possibly overtrained. One thing is for certain his style at 175 of beating down much bigger guys is unrealistic. Cotto, while a big power puncher, wouldn't have been able to run through 160 with that strategy. Which is why he ultimately went back to 154.
He seemed to instantly puff up around the eyes quickly. His eyes closed pretty quickly. I'm not sure what that's an indication of.
He tired heavily from like the 8th round going forward. He was inactive at times, and leaned on the ropes a lot. But we've seen this before.
He showed negative body language that even the commentators made note of. He seemed frustrated and at times and seemed ready to quit...at times. I guess his corner helped light fires up under him in between rounds. And he does have the heart of the champion. He never stopped trying to rally. Bivol was just too much for him though.Comment

To me, its simple: Bivol danced circles round him, wore him out, and didn't fold when presented with his power, either.
Canelo looking off is, I believe, him realizing his work is having no effect. Maybe gotten a bit too used to his power?
This is why I said earlier he's going to have to get fitter, get lighter on his feet, and try coming forward. Might be able to steal a decision on points, or find some openings by putting Bivol under pressure.
Just plodding forward and finding single shots isn't going to work. He's going to have to up the activity and put more combos together. For that, his conditioning will have to improve

He looked like the Canelo of 154 when he would tire by the mid rounds and coast to a decision. He’s not looked like that for a while and it really makes me wonder why hat the deal is. He wouldn’t have had to sweat down and lose a lot of water because of the higher weight. It’s very curious that all of a sudden he doesn’t look like this Canelo that had unlimited power and staminaComment
