There are a ton of kids with great athletic ability or natural dog in them who achieve nothing in boxing, for all kinds of reasons. So for me if a coach can take a random kid in their gym and have them become a HOFer, they must be doing a lot of things right, even if the fighter has great talent. A lot of fans are too critical because we never see all the good work in the gym. He has moulded Canelo from such an early stage, he hasn't had that length of time with Valdez or the others.

Is there a trainer in history who could've trained Valdez to beat Stevenson? Valdez could've shown better aggression, but ultimately his style has never been Duran or Pryor or Tyson. It wasn't that long ago that most people were picking Berchelt to beat Valdez. Doesn't Eddy get credit for training an underdog to victory there?

No trainer is perfect and a lot of the time they have mixed results. Sometimes a trainer comes up with a great strategy for a fight and we're all impressed. But then he doesn't keep doing it for every fight and people call him overrated. Happened with Roach, did great with Pac he's a genius but then his other guys lose and he's overrated. Same with Virgil having success with Ward but then some losses with other fighters. I remember people on here doing it for Manny Steward as well when Jermain Taylor, Cintron, Andy Lee were taking L's.

excellent trainer but he is not a damn Miracle Worker

Eddy and all trainers need to seriously keep a limit to the amount of fighters they work with, you can't fix everybody and maybe no longer working with Ruiz, Garcia and others is him realizing that he is trying to take on too much

LOL. Canelo was 9 years old when he got with reynoso. He deserves all the credit. Valdez was outmatched.

It’s hard to say when he has an all time great who is very self motivated to get better and handles his business. You could say he got the most out of Canelo’s talent or that he was just there for the ride.
Similar to Roger Mayweather. He trained some other fighters that didn’t do much so how much credit does he get for being in Floyd’s corner post Oscar fight?

He has worked w/ Canelo since he was a kid so credit has to be given there .Not much complaining when Valdez sparked out Berchelt , styles make fights Shakur was a nightmare style for Valdez that fight was playing out the same no matter who was in the corner .

Of course he’s a great trainer. He’s just experiencing the same thing Freddie roach did back in 2012. When Pac and Khan were on great runs, he was the best trainer ever. When they both lost in 2012, he was overrated etc. When asked for his assessment post fight, he was honest. He saw openings for Oscar, but they weren’t able to execute. Shakur was a -700 fav for a reason. Reynoso isn’t a miracle worker.

When Valdez iced berchelt nobody was questioning reynoso.

When Ryan garcia beat campbell nobody was questioning reynoso.

The best wins of each of their careers both under reynoso.

People used to think Eddie Reynoso ****** as a trainer when Canelo was younger. However, I think both he and Canelo's ring IQ grew together. They have a good training system around drilling powerful counter combinations. He has his flaws like other trainers, but if you give a fighter multiple camps with him, they'll improve.

Kay Koroma "Coach Kay" deserves some more attention. He coached Shakur since he was 13.

I don't know his whole body of work. But what defines a great trainer, somebody who just works with winners and top champions? Or a trainer who works with fighters at all levels?

I think somebody like Canelo Alvarez will be successful with most trainers.

Now Sugar Hill Steward, I think you can call him a great trainer because? There has a been a dramatic distinct change in Tyson Fury's performances. Sugar Hill Steward took Fury back to his roots, and help him adapt his game in order to stay competitive.

For me the trainers I like are, Adam Boot, Don Charles, also I think this Andy Lee seems like a good trainer.
