Comments Thread For: Tyson Fury - Filling Out the Reign

By Cliff Rold - It confirmed what was already pretty clear. When heavyweight king Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KO) came off the floor twice to defeat Deontay Wilder for the second time last year, it ended arguably the most thrilling heavyweight rivalry since Evander Holyfield-Rid**** Bowe. It also ended with Fury still on top. Pound for pound is fun and all, but it's not really tangible.

Fury has to beat at least Whyte, Usyk, AJ and why not count even Ruiz too (if he get his **** together) to be the best of this era. If he retires after this fight he will go down in history as "talent wasted" with his current record

An article I can actually get on board with.

I don't happen to agree that Fury is the lineal champion as I don't believe Fury v Wilder was a clear consensus 1&2 and I think the far greater claim is with Usyk (Joshua v Klitschko was much more of a clear consensus 1&2 with Fury well and truly out of the sport).

That said, I can see the other two roads (always lineal, and twice lineal) that people follow.

Regardless, Fury is clearly number one now. That's much more significant than lineal.

As a champion there's no depth to his work. Being the best is one thing - holding that position against challengers is a far greater achievement. So far everyone has been shooting for Fury and he's pretty much avoided them as best he could for whatever reason.

Klitschko couldn't get his rematch. Wilder had to go to court to get his rematch. Joshua lost out as a result. Whyte was pushed about as far as he could be by Fury and the WBC.

This fight is only the second time he's had to fight a challenger he didn't specifically pick... and the first was a guy he'd already beaten up.

Getting past Whyte is a huge step in his legitimacy as a champion.

I think he'll win. I don't believe he'll win and retire, but if he does he'll leave plenty of questions about how great he could have been.

For me Ruiz is relevant because he is former unified world champion. But now is time for him to move on with his career and fight some top 10 guys again.

"This corner sides with the idea that Fury has been the real champion all along . . . "

Not with a suspension for steroids. Had he not already "retired", possibly to avoid being stripped, then that's what would have happened. Either way, he wasn't champion "all along" and it's more revisionist recounting to say he was.

Tyson Fury's resume does not have depth, but? Whenever it is time to perform on the big stage, you cannot deny 'He has always won, or performed'.

Kiltschko, Wilder I, II & III. Although the first Wilder fight was a draw, yes and I do think it was a draw 'Fury still performed better than most people expected'.

Tyson Fury is a championship performer. I used to theorize that Fury would be spooked by being the World Champion and Favorite 'All that added pressure'.

But this theory of mine, no longer holds up. It has been 95% proven invalid.

Both Anthony Joshua & Deontay Wilder for me, have and where better champions that Fury. Wilder made 10 defenses of his titles, and Joshua has taken on all comers.

Also look how defiant both Wilder & Joshua are at holding on to their titles. Everyone wanted Wilder to disappear, after the second Fury fight but he refused. And it has been the same situation with Joshua after both of his loses, but these fighters refused to disappear and give up their titles without extreme resistance.

I personally value this trait in a fighter.

Tyson Fury has only just become champion, and now he wants out. Against a fighter who Anthony Joshua has already ****** out.

There the facts. They are the blunt facts. Fury has all the ability, all the fight to take on all comers 'But for some reason, I don't think he wants to do this'.

If Fury beat Whyte, Usyk and AJ he goes down as an ATG whatever that guy is smoking we all need some. Ruiz has the Buster Douglas one hit wonder claim to fame and that's giving Ruiz more credit than he probably deserves

Yesterday, Fury's eerily quiet about mob ties, today, Rold's kissing his arse.

He forgot to mention the gypsy cheat's long count.
