Interesting how many people purport to be fans of boxing but don't understand why saunas during fight week are a violation.
Any rapid weight loss during fight week is going to be water weight. Saunas are used as part of that to get the fighter to perspire. When a fighter is relying on water weight to cut weight during fight week, they risk strokes, kidney failure, heat disease, and death. Take the case of Leonardo Souza, an MMA fighter who actually died in a sauna in 2017 while trying to cut two more pounds of weight. Fighters die every year from weight cuts, and saunas contribute to that significantly due to their nature.
Frankly, weight cuts should be banned from all combat sports. They result in unnecessary and avoidable deaths every year, and aren't necessary if organizations are willing to require athletes to compete at their real weights. It would also encourage more responsible behavior, because athletes would have to cut fat, instead of water, in order to make weight.

Saunas are meant to releive pain and stiffness. You get the same effect letting the hot water run in the shower. It's not like a diuretic that shows up in your blood. How do you prove somebody isn't taking a sauna? What is the test?

When a guy is struggling to make weight they can use the sauna. It leaves them dried out &, in particular, reducing the fluid in all your body includes the fluid around your brain. Going into a fight with less fluid around your brain is insanely dangerous & makes it far more likely that one head punch can result in serious injury or death. So, I totally agree with the BBBoC that using sauna in the week immediately before the fight should be banned.
If you look at really disciplined fighters, B-Hop never came into camp more than a few pounds above fighting weight. Carl Froch said that he always tried to come into camp around 180 so that he was never worried about problems making 168. By contrast, Errol Spence, fighting at 147, has admitted coming in as much as 190. So, he was walking around heavier than Froch or B-Hop despite competing 3/4 division below them! If you do that, you are endangering your health.
Look, by 40 you gonna be retired & you can eat, drink, smoke, snort whatever you like. This is a dangerous sport. Don't play with it.
