Laurence Cole is the worst ref in the game

I’m rewatching now. What did he do wrong in the 6th round?

Not suggesting he’s a great ref but I thought he followed the rules when he waited to put the mouthpiece back in.

Also thought he could’ve taken points away from Ugas for holding or pushing his head down but didn’t.

What he did wrong was call for them to immediately to stop (twice) as seen here in this slow motion gif I made.

There are three stories going on here.

1. As soon as the mouthpiece was out Spence thought he heard Cole say stop when he didn't. He either (1.) knew Cole would say something because he knoew Cole was on his side or (2) was stunned from the punch that knocked the mouthpiece out of his head.
2. Within a second or two Cole was calling for a stop. The action was on!
3. The ropes clearly held Spence up. I think it's fair and reasonable to say the ropes kept Spence up.

he didn't do anything wrong in the 6th. He followed the rules. He waited for a break in the action and then had the corner wash the mouth piece off. Other than that, he's still corrupt

Slowmotion gif above shows he did not wait for a break in the action and he did not follow the rules on knockdowns as seen at the bottom of the page.

Cole did a good job in this fight but posters are judging him based on other fights and factors and using that to suggest his performance tonight was bad when it wasn’t or to suggest this fight was rigged.

Not only did he stymie Ugas, but he was very quick to get the doctor to check his eye. I've never seen a doctor block another fighters eye either. Have you? If yes, which fight or fights?

No he didn't! Like another poster said when Ugas knocked Spence flying intonthe ropes that should of been counted as a knockdown. Rooes can not keep you up. If they were not there Spence would of been on his ass.

No it shouldn’t have been. Spence never left his feet. You can speculate but that isn’t how a ref is supposed to do the job.

That wasn’t the ropes keeping him up.

Where does any rule say a fighter has to leave his feet? This is the literal rule.

It shall be ruled a knockdown when, as a result of a legal blow or series of legal blows, a boxer touches the floor with any part of the body other than his feet, or is being held up by the ropes, or is hanging on, through, or over the ropes without the ability to protect himself and cannot fall to the floor.

This is not speculation, this is what happened. Cole has an extremely checkered past and Spence is obviously the hometown favorite, let's be reasonable please. Cole was clearly favoring Spence.

I was at the maidana destruction of broner and he gave broner about 5 warnings without taking a point then takes a point from maidana.

Luckily it didn't impact the result but it was still awful reffing.
