Floyd vs Pac did untold damage to boxing.

And we are still feeling the after effects.

After years of posturing, everyone was on board for that and they served up a pile of putrid drek.

Casuals watched that crap, saw how much money those two made and said eff this I'm out.

Now they pay to watch guys who wear furry hats in a cage

They should have had rematch to make amends. Even if it wasn't big selling in rematch

Stop letting casual boxing fans or lemmings run your life mate.

Why are you yearning for their validation?

I would suggest that you consider deleting your own thread. Seriously, it may be the correct thing to do.

I have said this before, people let casuals or lemmings run their lives. Casual sports fans will come and go, they have no deep rapport with anything.

So stop overly caring about them.

It is not about them mate, it is about you, real boxing fans 'What do you want? Care about that'.

This is utterly ridiculous. The networks that air boxing caused the problems with exclusive network deals.

Big name fighters became network employees rather instead of independent contractors. Networks want ratings so they were content with putting a fighter on to showcase him against weaker comp rather than risk them losing.

The promoters and fighters went along with this because the networks were paying ridiculous amounts of money.

Networks then realized by limiting the times a boxer fought during the year- fans would pay more to see them. This is why the cash cow generally fights 2 times a year.

Prior to this, when networks had to bid on fights, this encouraged the best matchups because they paid more. The lower purses allowed for better undercards with boxers fans knew.

Network greed and trying to maximize profit hurt boxing. Don’t blame the athletes.

I think it affected boxing the most for being over hyped. The fight of the century and looking back it wasn't a very good fight stylistically. In their primes ya it would've been a good one . it turned A LOT of fans off.

yeah that fight had to happen years before when pac was a real gunslinger, i was surprised so many people were so hyped for it when it did eventually happen, it was a real letdown for the entire sport

              Eh, I dont know.

I remember a lot of people that didnt really watch boxing apart from the occasional fight tuning in to that fight and then being all like "boxing is dead" etc etc. But then most of those same people more or less carried on doing the same thing they were doing before ie tuning in for the occasional fight like Canelo/GGG or Fury/Wilder and otherwise not caring.

One thing i'll definitely agree with is that was the end of a long era where we had two major stars who would consistently draw massive PPV numbers in America several times a year against practically anyone.

I believe that the wait for the fight did damage the sport, but not the fight itself. Fans will forget the last boring fight they saw if you can show a good one after that. However, it doesn't even compare to the sport's real problems. Every aspect of the sport is a fractured mess with no direction. Ten belts per division, networks with exclusive deals, promoters who wont cooperate, suspect judging in big fights...

Any fight with Mayweather was doomed to not appeal to boxing casuals. He could even stink it up with true boxing fans. It takes getting in their to appreciate his abilities. I’m saying this and letting you know I only payed for maybe 3 Mayweather fights.
