Also, it's hard to argue against Canelo being a solid favorite, considering GGG struggled very much vs Derevy, and even Murata was able to push him back for the first few rounds.

While Canelo KOd or dominated Smith, BJS, Plant and Kov.

But a closer look at all of those fights makes it not so clear to me. Smith was a walking punching bag; Ryder did the same as Canelo did to him a fight prior, and Jacobs fought Ryder very evenly recently. Combine all that, and it's hard to not imagine GGG doing the same to Smith. Kov was a classic cherry pick fight as well.

Plant and BJS were both very good wins, but both had very little power to keep Canelo honest. Some of Plants punches especially were rather pathetic and weak. GGG shouldn't have that problem, even at 40 years old. Also Derevy was an animal vs GGG, and I would think he would have given Canelo a tough fight that night, short of Canelo landing a great body shot and stopping him.

Derevy is a rough matchup for anyone - easy enough to hit, but he never stops coming and lands a ton of shots himself. Similar to a Maidana type fighter in a way. Hard to keep off of you.

Basically I could see a scenario where GGG/Canelo did about what the other guy did in all those fights.

I ask myself this question could GGG at 40 beat the likes of Calum Smith, BJS and Caleb Plant? I believe he could and I also think his fight with Murata was a great tune up fight with a quality opponent. He should also think about another one before his trilogy fight with Canelo.

People going on like Canelo is some invincible guy who never drops rounds... He dropped 3 rounds to Billy Joe Saunders in an 8 round fight, dropped between 4-5 rounds to Daniel Jacobs and is gonna drop hella rounds to Bivol and possibly lose that fight. Trust me, Golovkin vs Canelo 3 is in jeopardy of not even happening!

A lot of people share the same opinions as him. ggg has done nothing of note since the 2nd canelo fight in 2018, a fight that he lost on top of that. Canelo has been moving up in weight and beating bigger guys, and is now facing a tough threat in bivol (I still think he should fight benavidez). ggg has not earned the trilogy. This is just dazn trying to make sure their over-spending and signing of ggg is worth it, but the trilogy is a fight many long-time boxing fans and even boxers don't care about as much as they used to. ggg is past it. He showed his stamina issues in the fight with 2 bums (kamil and murata), is slower in his reflexes, gets hit even more and is weak to the body.

Can’t remember a single “pound for pound king” fighting an inactive 40 yr old. Pretty shameful.
Canelo is fighting a more legitimate threat in May.

The only reason he is facing Golovkin again is because DAZN offered him a monster deal and they want Golovkin to be one of the fights on that deal. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Father Time is undefeated. Canelo by age.

That's what I'd be concerned about too, that it looks like Golovkin is past his best by a few years, and Canelo would really beat him up badly.

I think GGG could do okay for six rounds or so, and then he'd get broken down in the latter rounds.

But yeah, Canelo has a much more challenging fight against Bivol.

hasn’t earned? Some of you folks don’t think. How many straps he has right now? Still king of his division. So now champions that move up in weight haven’t earned first dibs at belts in the next weight class? How come that’s historically been the way it’s been in the sport the last 60 somewhat years since they added more weight classes. Say golovkin is old, say you are concerned for him, but to say he hasn’t earned the fight is laughable. Even if I didn’t make the argument I made, they’ve had two razor thin fights. Two which in both cases press row felt the wrong guy won. Let that man either lose outright or have the night of his life. He’s still carrying what he feels is bad judging. Both are.

As a long time GGG fan, I would prefer he not take the Canelo fight. The "Bank of Canelo" owns the judges outright, so GGG's only hope is a knockout. Possible? Maybe. But giving credit where it's due, Canelo has a chin like an engine block. And remember, one of the effects of long term steroid use is cranial growth, which might possibly explain Canelo's big old cinder block head. But GGG also has a famously tough chin, so I really don't see Canelo knocking out GGG either. That puts the outcome back with the judges, and the Bank of Canelo will never again lose a fight that goes to the judges. That only happened once, against an even bigger money man, Floyd Mayweather.

Golovkin, on the off chance that you read commenters on a boxing web site, the majority of boxing fans out there think you won both fights with Canelo, and Canelo's years of dodging you show that he thinks you won them too. You had a great day in Japan. The title is unified, and you own it. You'll be in the HoF one day. Maybe this is a good time to go home to your family and find greater happiness there.

On paper it don't look good for GGG, nelo coming into prime and GGG going further from prime. But Fights don't always go as planned. GGG is nelo kryptonite maybe
