Well that seems to be the general consensus around these parts. Most posters on this forum agree that GGG doesn't stand much of a chance against Canelo and I tend to agree with them also.

After all, GGG is a cherry pick. Canelo tends to fight opponents who are the most expedient and advantageous for him and Golovkin is no different. It just so happens that he is one of those opponents for Canelo to exploit.

Anyone who has any knowledge of boxing knows that Tim is right. Which is what makes this so shameful. Wasn’t bad enough that canelo waited 2 yrs to face ggg the first time or got caught cheating leading into the second fight. Once he realized that he couldn’t even have his way with a 36 yr old ggg, he convinced his simple fan base that he won convincingly and there wasn’t a need for a third fight. Only to change his mind 4 yrs later and take on the 40 yr old ghost version of ggg, not too dissimilar from the ghost version of Kovalev that he faced. Now someone tell me again how ggg a more dangerous option than facing Benavidez in sept?

I guess money is a powerful drug. I was hoping GGG would get the win vs Murata and sail off into the sunset. Not really sure what he's trying to prove because he's tougher than most and I fear is going to take a real beating at this point. Regardless of what you think of the outcomes he did very well in both fights. But I guess the flipside of that is most of us get our asses kicked at work every day, what's getting it kicked for an hour for the kind of payday he's going to take home?

I'm a Canelo fan, but I do not see him walking through GGG. Canelo's last last 3 opponents have no power. People are really being deluded into thinking Canelo will be invincible in the ring against GGG. GGG might be 40, but he's still a power puncher. Canelo is not going to just walk through a world class fighter/boxer with power - as this is the case with GGG. The only way this fight becomes easy, will be if GGG turns old on the night of.

GGG-Canelo won’t be fighting anyway this fall. Canelo will be fighting Bivol again after a) losing to him in May, or b) winning a controversial gift decision over Bivol and being shamed by the public outcry into giving him a September rematch.

Like the immediate rematches Canelo gave Lara or Golovkin after officially beating them?

The only issue I have with a prediction like this, is his reasoning doesn't make much sense.

He makes good points about the fight being at 168, how that is probably an advantage for Canelo..

I may be in the minority, but if Canelo-GGG 3 happens in September, I view this fight being contested at 168lbs as a distinct advantage for GGG. GGG will be moving up 8lbs from a division at which he looked extremely lean and muscular; Canelo will be moving down 7lbs from a division for which he still--at this point in his career--needs to diet and dehydrate himself to make weight (he supposedly "walks around at" 200 lbs). Golovkin looked more physically refreshed vs. Steve Rolls, at a 164lb catchweight, than he has at recent fights at middleweight (with the possible exception of versus Szeremeta).

I think you're the first person I've seen say they actually like Maura Ranallo. Personally, I find him too clownish and think he should stick to wrestling... but that's just me.

Fair point - 168 could be favor GGG as much or even more than Canelo. Importantly because Canelo has been hopping around weight divisions, very good point there.

I do think Canelo has fallen in love with power punching enough over his last several fights that he probably would fight GGG toe to toe which, of course, would give GGG his best shot at this stage. I would love to see GGG take it to Canelo and beat him officially this time, but I just don't think he has the engine anymore. Murata had him breathing hard after just a couple of rounds.

For those who want to find glimmers of hope in GGG's performance, he did throw 629 punches in under 9 rounds (over 72 punches per round), he did (according COMPUBOX) land 41% of those punches (47% of his power punches), and most importantly, he did fight significantly better in the second half of the fight.
