Ah the godfather of ground and pound. He used to do a lot of damage with headbutts in the UFC when they were legal too.

Remember when he won that Pride GP in 2000? in fact i'm pretty sure that gif is from the final. Really cool moment because he had kind of been counted out by a lot of people at that point after a rough few years.

    Pride was the shyt.

Yeah, that's the fight against Igor.

Coleman really redeemed himself with that tournament. He lost three straight UFC fights and his first Pride fight before fighting in the 2000 Grand Prix and winning the whole thing.

Wanderlei Silva back in Pride when you could kick/stomp the head of someone on the ground was ****ing terrifying.

Wow dude that is ****ing crazy.

I remember watching some fight, no clue the names of the fighters because I don't follow MMA like that.

It was some type of spinning kick and cracked the dude right the in neck.

I thought he was a goner

MMA is actually a fuller contact sport than boxing. One cannot ignore that a well rounded MMA fighter beats a well rounded Boxer any day of the week and twice on Saturday because Sunday's are meant for resting. Mixed martial arts is the closest it gets to a real life street fight. That's just a fact. It's more entertaining imho.

But I think boxing is a better sport because it's one universe. With the exception of North Korea I think, anyone in the world with skills can jump up the ranks and become a champion. MMA on the other hand has a sort of multi universe type of structure where a good fighter from one organization can't fight another fighter from a different organization. It's limited in the matchmaking field. Maybe someday this problem gets fixed so that good unknown fighters that have talent get fair opportunities to become champions. Boxing creates the super fights because it pits the best against the best in the world and that generates more notoriety and fame for the fighters.

                  Conclusion: Tie

I wish HBO had done with boxing what UFC did with MMA.
UFC’s structure and match making is what sets it apart from boxing right now. The best constantly fight the best in the UFC. Boxing, we probably get it once or twice a year.

Yup. Dana White could have made Conor fight nobodies for years. He really could have. Its a credit to the UFC and to the sport of MMA that fans never have to go through something like that.
