Canelo comes from circus people. They headlined him, but they brought a big show. His undercards had fight of the year quality, while he got the lions share. Bud is a one man show.

Anyways, if we think of what he said about UFC & MMA guys years ago, one can only imagine his real views on things.
Racism is hard to prove in this case, but incompetence would have been easy.

Uncle Bob isn't racist. Someone pointed it out in an earlier post about social media today & the access to athletes on FB, instagram,Tweeter, Tik Tak, etc, etc. Look at that Paul guys PPV numbers. Although I must say I will never forget Bob when he had Tye Fields headlining on Vs channel for a few years. He fought Releford, Koval, Dom Jenkins & rederick Willis on the network.
After the Willis fight the guy interviewing asked Bob when he was going to finally step up Field's level of competition. Bob said he was going to fight Rahman next. Bob then followed it up with Tye is big, good looking, has power, is athletic, is charismatic & he is WHITE!!! Hahaha! The Rahman fight fell thru & Uncle Bob put Tye in the co-main event on a Pacquiao undercard against Monte Barrett...
Bob dumped him & Tye moved up to Canada in my city of Edmonton. Here is a surprising note. Fields made quite a bit of money boxing. He headlined a lot of events in the US & here in Canada. He headlined a lot of TV events & fought on 2 PPV against Grant on one & on the Pacquiao undercard in the other. His estimated worth is between 4-7 million. He played overseas basketball for a few years then got into boxing. They don't lie when they say HW boxing pays but I'm sure a large portion of his earnings came from basketball...
Tye Fields is a multi millionaire & he never played in the NBA & never really made a big splash in boxing at the world level. He done pretty well for himself & being a white HW helped his marketability.Last edited by joe strong; 03-29-2022, 11:48 AM.

Celebrity access is the big thing now. Not saying it all has to be on Crawford, but there's only so much the promoter can do. Especially Crawford's market, black folks don't want to listen to some old white guy talk

That's interesting, that he said Crawford didn't help much in the promotion of his fights.
He does seem like a quiet guy, and most fighters don't really speak a lot or have the charisma of a Tyson Fury.
A defensive master, but not perhaps one with the most widespread appeal, in Mayweather, still knew how to sell his fights. It was kinda like well, pay to see him win or lose, you're still paying.
Bud needs a big name win, and the Porter victory wasn't enough. He needs a win over Spence, a top contender like Ennis or Ortiz Jr, or move to middleweight and make waves there.

Bud getting a reality check currently. Been almost 5 months since his split and he still hasn’t made any moves.
Canelo got out of his DAZN/Golden Boy deal and within weeks had fights lined up and just chose between two competing $100 million plus deals.
Levels to this.

That's what's he's paid to do. Period. Remember....Bob also didn't give him the Pac fight that was also promised in the initial contract...people forget that. That was reason he signed with Top Rank in the first place.
Bob's definitely not a racist, but seriously needs to bring in some Fresh eyes to bring them up with the times. Because as you say...this isn't the old days. Top Rank needs to step their game up because they're falling by the wayside.

You’re paid to promote nowadays. It’s literally in the contracts that you have to do x, y and z on your social media, attend said promotional events. It’s crazy but it’s how business is done these days.

Bringing up canelo is irrelevant as he’s had a built in nationalistic fan base, so promoting him is much easier. Just like arum was able to successfully promote Cotto despite his bland personality , because he had a nationalistic fan base built in. Crawford doesn’t have that so that means the promotor needs to do his job better, not blame the fighter because you want him to do a portion of the job you’re taking a significant % to do. Crawford’s job is to fight and win impressively which he has done consistently.
Instead he went across the pond to help train Amir Khan to get sparked out because he had nothing better to do and is suing Arum because he thinks that will be his best payday.
Bud wasted his prime earning years hiding behind Arum and Top Rank and now reality is setting in. Keep dreaming he has some big plans in the works.
