How skilled is prime Canelo?

Kesler was a fine boxer but too delicate for Canelo. Canelo could deal with his OUTSIDE boxing style. Only man that gave him a hard time was Mayweather. Why? Cause he is a boxer as well but he liked fighting on the inside and even that close. Canelo couldn’t hit him.
I believe another guy that could beat him would be Calzaghe. Why? He just seemed able to adapt to any style. Calzaghe was a freak. He looked average but could beat anyone.

Anyway, Bivol is selling his belts. No way a guy who can't stop 154s will be able to go up to 175 and walked down a guy who stood toe-toe with monsters like Smith and Barrera, huge 175s.

He is very skilled especially considering that he is an undersized pressure fighter. What helps him is that he did not start off as a pressure fighter but rather a (for lack of a better term) slick counter puncher that took that skill set and just switched to a more offensive one.

Canelp as of late is not a win rounds fighter so it is difficult to compare him to others whose style is centered on banking rounds. Canelo's current style is a "get to you eventually" approach. And that is the trouble that people have been having with him.

They start off well but are not able to land anything solid (with power) and as the fight goes on he inches closer and closer to them. And what gives him the major advantage is that while they are moving backwards at a quick pace he moves forward at a rather slow pace.

His upper body movement is what deceives people and masks his punches. That is why people are tempted to retreat when he does that. They don't know if he is being defensive or offensive and more often than not choose not to square up since they don't want to risk being wrong and eating a loaded up counter.

All that said. He can be outboxed in the current weight classes he is at. And honestly if he chose to box instead of press people he would likely lose most of his recent fights. He is giving up so much height and reach that it would be ****** to try and approach the fight under a pure boxing style
