    How skilled is prime Canelo?

I rank him the same level with prime Toney. Better than prime Calzaghe and prime Hopkins imo. Prime Ward would also be good opponent for him.

How do you rank him skill for skill?

Joe Calzaghe would beat Canelo Alvarez at 168.

Calzaghe has greater endurance, greater speed, greater work rate. And Alvarez's power is nothing Calzaghe has not experience before.

Alvarez skill level is high, but he is competing against under par competition.

Smith, Saunders, Plant, Fielding, all of these guys would of been ****** out by Calzaghe & Froch.

In some area's Alvarez skill level is not elite. His movement is nothing special, also he lacks gears 'And can only fight at a constant droning pace'.

Ward, Hopkins are above Alvarez is overall skill level. Alvarez is just above Calzaghe in skill level, and probably around James Toney level.

The reason why Calzaghe would beat Alvarez is because, the attributes he has over Alvarez 'Would impact the fight greatly'.

Endurance, speed, work rate. Physical strength. These are the type of attributes that can negate skills. And it is not as if Alvarez is miles ahead of his opponents. Alvarez drops rounds all of the time.

His skill level and ability is good. He's taking good challenges and that's why he's No1 pfp.

The only other fighters that would rival Canelo on skills is Crawford and Usyk. That being said Canelo is still #1

He is very skilled especially considering that he is an undersized pressure fighter. What helps him is that he did not start off as a pressure fighter but rather a (for lack of a better term) slick counter puncher that took that skill set and just switched to a more offensive one.

Canelp as of late is not a win rounds fighter so it is difficult to compare him to others whose style is centered on banking rounds. Canelo's current style is a "get to you eventually" approach. And that is the trouble that people have been having with him.

They start off well but are not able to land anything solid (with power) and as the fight goes on he inches closer and closer to them. And what gives him the major advantage is that while they are moving backwards at a quick pace he moves forward at a rather slow pace.

His upper body movement is what deceives people and masks his punches. That is why people are tempted to retreat when he does that. They don't know if he is being defensive or offensive and more often than not choose not to square up since they don't want to risk being wrong and eating a loaded up counter.

All that said. He can be outboxed in the current weight classes he is at. And honestly if he chose to box instead of press people he would likely lose most of his recent fights. He is giving up so much height and reach that it would be ****** to try and approach the fight under a pure boxing style

When we consider his small size and very low punch output, we actually see how terrifying his talent is. He attacks the young lions like a honey badger. Damn.

He's very skilled. However, I think Beterbiev would beat him. However, I don't see anyone else beating him for years to come unless he challenges Usyk at heavyweight.

I wish you wouldn't use the word prime, its such a clique and how long is a piece of string thing, be better suited to say on their best night even though that's what you're implying prime lasts over many years for the elite guys, they operate at 90 to 100% of there best for most of there career, its only a millisecond between landing and missing, weaving and getting caught.

Canelo has really good boxing skills, he is a little stiff and a little flat-footed, very fast hands and lots of power in both hands, looks to have a granite chin and massive heart .

Very hard guy to beat right now, I think Floyds style is all that can beat him because its focuses on Canelos weakest points his feet and stiffness, which is why his has troubles with slick movers, but you gotta be next level slick.

Canelos the best fighter in the world right now.
