If he had waited the fight probably wouldn't happen untill early next year, a pretty long layoff for Manny. Floyd was already going on over a year, a few more months wouldn't have been too big a deal for him to wait until after Pac-Hatton.

Why couldn't Manny wait to see who the winner of this fight would be before going to fight Cotto?

I mean if he really believed that Floyd would win and he keep saying that he wants Floyd, why couldn't he wait till after this fight occurred to schedule his next opponent, Floyd Mayweather?

Now, I am not accusing Manny of ducking, so don't come in this thread with non sense. As I said in the first sentence, this is an HONEST question.
Actually the correct answer was that Manny was waiting for the winner of Mayweather/ Marquez but the combination of the Mayweather fight being postponed, Cotto's poor showing against Clottey, and the lure of the record 7th division title all led to Pac going ahead with the Cotto fight.

This is incredibly obvious as he's shown no visible effects of the weight gain he's had in his fights above 135.

Anyone can throw the "weight drained oscar" excuse around all they want, but the fact is Oscar wasn't a walking, slumbering zombie in the ring. He still had ability yet he was COMPLETELY, not somewhat, COMPLETELY ineffective. Pacquiao's speed and power was obviously still there when he sent Hatton back to the future.

Now, looking at Marquez's last 2 fights, anyone would be foolish to say the same for him. He was arguably losing both fights against Casamayor and Diaz. The weight gain has slowed his footspeed, timing and reflexes.

Its not rocket science. This is common sense that is in your face when you watch both of them fight at higher weight classes.
He may have not been leading against Casamayor or Baby Bull but he was gonna win every round against Juan Diaz before the K.O. JMM adjusted and reduced Juan Diaz's style to nothing. Casamayor is VERY underrated, I was picking Casamayor to win that. Marquez shouldn't be ashamed in struggling with that type of opposition. We're talking about the most underrated fighter in this generation, Joel Casamayor. Dude got robbed against Freitas, JLC and Corrales. Also, don't expect a fighter to move up and not decline in speed.

I also picked Juan Diaz to beat Marquez but I never thought Marquez would be able to hurt Diaz that bad. Watching Diaz take Nate's power punches, I was certain Marquez would only have enough to get respect, that wasn't the case. Still I knew Juan Diaz was gonna overwhelm Marquez early on, but Marquez adjusted. I mean, ofcourse Marquez declined. Fighters who move up in weight do decline, that's expected.

It's quite sad that I can not ask an HONEST question to "boxing fans." Sin City you need to learn to read! I said in the VERY first post that I was NOT accusing Manny of ducking. The question I asked is a valid one. And NO it wasn't asked to discredit Manny IN ANY WAY, so don't try read into my question. If you can answer then thanks but don't come in the thread saying that I'm trying to discredit a fighter.

Cuz Mr boat buyer needs Pac, Pac don't need him. Pac is the top fighter in boxing right now, so he calls the shots. Why would he wait on Mr boat buyer? Win or lose, Pac makes an even bigger statement by goin after Cotto at WW, while Mr boat buyer is pickin on JMM at WW. As much as he don't need him now, Pac really don't need him if he can get past Cotto and add anotha division championship.

He's the draw in boxing right now. This fight is bigger than Mayweather-Marquez anyway. He's making ****load either way. Plus Bob Arum and Mayweather don't like each other. The negotiating would be awful. It'd be a long wait anyway. He's gotta stay active. It's not sure how much longer he'll fight.

fair enough. Had this fight on Saturday happened in July do you personally think it would be a different story?
