If he had waited the fight probably wouldn't happen untill early next year, a pretty long layoff for Manny. Floyd was already going on over a year, a few more months wouldn't have been too big a deal for him to wait until after Pac-Hatton.
Why didn't Manny wait?

I remember how a bunch of ppl were crying that Floyd should have waited just a day then he could have fought Manny in his first fight in almost two years. So now I pose an HONEST question.
Why couldn't Manny wait to see who the winner of this fight would be before going to fight Cotto?
I mean if he really believed that Floyd would win and he keep saying that he wants Floyd, why couldn't he wait till after this fight occurred to schedule his next opponent, Floyd Mayweather?
Now, I am not accusing Manny of ducking, so don't come in this thread with non sense. As I said in the first sentence, this is an HONEST question.Comment

he wanted to keep busy...........leverage.........as a pac fan i wish he would have waited for the pbf fight................pbf/pac has too much allure to be ruin ed by an upset imo.............well if theyre meant to fight they will have to win......the one who gives a better performance gets the bigger piece of the cake......imoComment

Marquez and Pacquiao are not the same fighter. THEIR relative size does not indicate what their physical abilities are. Simply put, Pacquiao's genetics allow him the luxury of preforming and being effective at higher weight classes. Its that simple. This is incredibly obvious as he's shown no visible effects of the weight gain he's had in his fights above 135.
Anyone can throw the "weight drained oscar" excuse around all they want, but the fact is Oscar wasn't a walking, slumbering zombie in the ring. He still had ability yet he was COMPLETELY, not somewhat, COMPLETELY ineffective. Pacquiao's speed and power was obviously still there when he sent Hatton back to the future.
Now, looking at Marquez's last 2 fights, anyone would be foolish to say the same for him. He was arguably losing both fights against Casamayor and Diaz. The weight gain has slowed his footspeed, timing and reflexes.
Its not rocket science. This is common sense that is in your face when you watch both of them fight at higher weight classes.
I also picked Juan Diaz to beat Marquez but I never thought Marquez would be able to hurt Diaz that bad. Watching Diaz take Nate's power punches, I was certain Marquez would only have enough to get respect, that wasn't the case. Still I knew Juan Diaz was gonna overwhelm Marquez early on, but Marquez adjusted. I mean, ofcourse Marquez declined. Fighters who move up in weight do decline, that's expected.Last edited by Doctor_Tenma; 09-15-2009, 05:34 PM.Comment

It's quite sad that I can not ask an HONEST question to "boxing fans." Sin City you need to learn to read! I said in the VERY first post that I was NOT accusing Manny of ducking. The question I asked is a valid one. And NO it wasn't asked to discredit Manny IN ANY WAY, so don't try read into my question. If you can answer then thanks but don't come in the thread saying that I'm trying to discredit a fighter.Comment

Actually the correct answer was that Manny was waiting for the winner of Mayweather/ Marquez but the combination of the Mayweather fight being postponed, Cotto's poor showing against Clottey, and the lure of the record 7th division title all led to Pac going ahead with the Cotto fight.Comment

He's the draw in boxing right now. This fight is bigger than Mayweather-Marquez anyway. He's making ****load either way. Plus Bob Arum and Mayweather don't like each other. The negotiating would be awful. It'd be a long wait anyway. He's gotta stay active. It's not sure how much longer he'll fight.Comment
