Which fans? American fans? Mexican fans? LDBC fans? No matter what this guy does, he's going to get complaints from somebody. He's just cleaned out the SMW division by defeating all the champions there. Now he's going after the LHW champions. Bivol, whether he's a mainstream star or not, is perhaps the toughest fight he could take, including Beterbiev, so how anybody could seriously criticize Canelo at this point is beyond my ability to understand.Comment

Here's how I see it Canelo says he beat the best guys at 168 which were the champions but that isnt always a fact. Just because a guy has the title doesn't mean he is the best. It could be hasn't fought the best himself yet. That being said no matter who you wanna see Canelo fight whether Bivol and GGG or Charlo and Benavidez neither combination is a soft touch or given wins for Canelo. I would prefer since he is fighting Bivol and GGG that Charlo and Benavidez fight and see who wins OR if he had chosen Charlo and Benavidez then why not see Bivol vs GGG. Hell there are tons of awesome fights to see without Canelo being involved!Comment

That’s the problem with this guy….he cleans out a weak division and he thinks that makes him king…cherry picking at its best…other than the golovkin fights none of the name fighters were in their prime or posed no serious threat because their lack of power and the others were out right bums…dazn almost went out of business messing with this guy the first time…he’s a good fighter but the few times he was tested he lost or should’ve lostComment

True but fans know Charlo more than Andrade and Bivol, at least in America. He packed that Houston arena.
You might be right about Bivol not being well known, but the reality is that relatively few people in this country know Andrade, Charlo, and Benavidez either. Keep in mind that boxing is a niche sport in this country. The DAZN platform is available in over 200 countries and many of these folks are just as likely to know Bivol and GGG as Charlo and the like, particularly in Europe. It is really Canelo that drives the numbers. He set a U.S. indoor attendance record and in Mexico alone, over 15 million people watch his fights on Mexican TV irrespective of whom he fights. By way of comparison, Mexico has 1/3 of the U.S. population and I can't think of any American boxer who can attract 15 million tv viewers in this country.
The reality is that Canelo cannot fight all the wannabes on the same night. In the meantime, boxing fans are deprived of good fights while these guys avoid fighting each other and each puts social media pressure on Canelo to pick ME. When Canelo picks one, then the rest complain, and so on. In a way, from a broader boxing perspective, it might be better for Canelo to lose in order to break up this log jam. This strategy of perfectly competent boxers simply picking uber drivers as their next opponent until they get a fight with Canelo is destructive to the sport. I think before too long at least in this country people will move on and no one will give a damn about boxing.
Yes, Canelo drives the numbers.
Well once Hearn refused to make the ggg/Andrade unification, it seems everyone else at or near 168 decided to do same- take easy fights until Canelo calls them.
I agree that it hurts the sport- but if one guy does it you have to expect all the top guys to do it because a Canelo payday, like Floyd or ODH, only comes around once.Last edited by The Big Dunn; 03-10-2022, 06:03 PM.Comment

Even if it hurts some fan boys here he’s 100% correct. This guy gonna fight an undefeated 175 lb champ that has height, arm length and natural overall size advantage while Benavides fights Lemiux a guy that is small, inactive and past his prime…Charlo fights the court system and Andrade fights who knows and Canelo is the one we complain about. If these guys would fight each other Canelos opponents would be easy to choose but they won’t do they’re at his mercy.Comment
