David Lemieux is finally due back in the ring on May 21 at Footprint Arena in Phoenix against David Benavidez according to ESPN's Mike Coppinger. The American media had also indicated last December that this fight at 168 pounds could allow the winner to eventually get into the ring to face Canelo Alvarez. This one must however face Dmitry Bivol and potentially complete his trilogy with Gennady Golovkin this year according to what is reported.

Lemieux (43-4, 35 KOs) is 3-0 since jumping to 168 pounds, but this will be his first real test in this division. The 33-year-old Lemieux hopes his strike force will allow him to annoy Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs). He has twice held a 168-pound title and has never suffered defeat once in the ring. He lost his belts after testing positive for doping and missing the weight at a weigh-in.

A super middleweight clash between David Benavidez and David Lemieux has been set for May 21 at Footprint Arena in Phoenix, sources told ESPN.

    Lemieux vs world titlsts:
L vs Joachim Alcine MD 12
    W vs Hassan N'Dam UD 12
L vs Gennadiy Golovkin TKO 8
L vs Billy Joe Saunders UD 12

    Benavidez vs world titlists:
W vs Anthony Dirrell TKO 9

Both these guys should have fought a lot more top names by this point in their respective careers. Benavidez should be fighting guys like Dirrell and Lemieux in his off fights while he seeks the real big fish, not having them as the crown ***els of his resume sandwiched around a bunch of time wasting fights against no-hopers.

Long shot for Lemieux for sure... Not sur Benavidez ever met that kind of power ... But 100% this thing won't go the distance ...

Lemieux is done. Was exciting to watch in his prime vs average fighters or nobodies, but this will be punishing I think.

I’m having a hard time figuring out which fight is worse between Golovkin/Murata or Benavidez/Lemiux? Both are such a waste of time
