How come Pacquiao was able to still be fast at age 40?

This. 40 year old Pac's opponents just weren't able to handle the slower version Pac and it made him still look fast. Young Pac was like, watching his punches in slow motion looked "fast". He dropped plenty just because they couldn't see where the hell the punch came from.

On that note, Amir had a moment of speed shown but he lost it quickly. I believe Kell's ability to time him just made him more hesitant to go crazy throwing and he slowed down a tad to be more calculated which didn't help him either. Listen, you can't even put Amir and Pac's name in the same sentence. They're so far apart, it's not even funny.

Pac speed > Khan speed all day.

He was still fast because had a lot to lose before he wasn’t anymore. At 40 he wasn’t nearly as fast as he was when he was splitting Oscar’s guard with lead lefts.

      Fast is a relative term.

        Genetics and skill.

How did Michael Jordan come out of retirement twice, and in the 2nd time still punk dudes around the league and retire at 40?

Thurman beat Garcia easy. Garcia knocked Khan out within 6 rounds.

Pacquiao fans love pretending the Jeff Horn and Ugas losses never happened. He lost his speed a long time ago.

So much of when a fighters prime is depends on the brain.

A guy like Bernard Hopkins had the ability to learn from every fight he was in, and by the time he was 40 years old he was probably the best he's ever been. This is common amongst many sports.

I can name you players in football who were as good at 40 as they were at 30,because they never stopped learning, I can also name you players who stopped learning as soon as they got signed to a big team and never improved after the age of 18.

The whole "prime is 28-32" thing is so subjective, some fighters are FINISHED by then, some aren't getting started.
                So much this.

Pacquiao was actually an intelligent fighter with great defence although he did have some bad habits.

Most importantly he was excellent at pacing himself later on in his career so he wouldn't gas.

Prime Pac would just let loose like a bazooka for 12 rounds.

his hand speed was actually faster and more powerful as he got older, its his legs that slowed first, roy jones jr said its always the leg speed that goes, once pacman loses a step its a wrap and we saw that in the ugas fight, his hands were blazing fast but he was stuck in cement, he used float in the air when throwing combos.
