How come Pacquiao despite suffering a bad ko was able to be fast at age 40 while most guys like Khan lose their speed at 32-33?

Pac has a good center of gravity, his tree trunk legs.

Pacquiao didn't only have speed he had power and a good chin and was more accurate and more intelligent in the ring.

Pac became a more clever and tactical fighter as he got older, Khan stayed the same idiot he always was but didn't have the stamina and recovery powers of his youth to still help him out.

So much of when a fighters prime is depends on the brain.

A guy like Bernard Hopkins had the ability to learn from every fight he was in, and by the time he was 40 years old he was probably the best he's ever been. This is common amongst many sports.

I can name you players in football who were as good at 40 as they were at 30,because they never stopped learning, I can also name you players who stopped learning as soon as they got signed to a big team and never improved after the age of 18.

The whole "prime is 28-32" thing is so subjective, some fighters are FINISHED by then, some aren't getting started.

Most of all, GREAT GENETICS & the fact he doesn’t eat junk food or drink. (Remeber B Hop?) I think many in here would be surprised at some of these 40-50 year old boxers being fat and out of shape could STILL whip 18-30 year old INTERNET keyboard boxers who are in shape.

He still had speed, but not like when he was young. Go watch his early fights.

He had an easy go of it at WW.
He didn't really take on too many risks.

Tbh, mate, I'm guessing a large portion of this is down to lifestyle. I mean, Pac must have suffered some speed/reflex decline, but he appears to live the life of a boxer. Wladimir and Vitali still train now, so same for them.

Khan and Brook either degenerate or blow up between fights; in Khan's case, his gap was almost a 4 year interim.

You see it in other sports. In soccer (football for me) it was noticeable who was dedicated to the craft, performing as they could into their late 30s, and who was eating ice cream near constantly, such as Wayne Rooney, who admitted as such, and became **** aged 30.

Sorry, I know this reply would be better suited to Quora

Diet is a big factor, Amir would always balloon up after a fight. Man loved his food.
