When i think of Canelo telling him he is wasting his talent & time by not being 100% focused on boxing I can’t help but think of Shannon Briggs when he was with Teddy Atlas. Briggs was busy outside the ring trying to make a rap album or something & Atlas told him he needed to give 100% of his time to boxing or it would not end well. He ended up getting KO’d by another undefeated HW at the time Darroll Wilson. They ended up splitting…years later on an ESPN telecast after losses to Lennox Lewis, Sedrick Fields, McCline & a disputed draw against Botha (Close but he lost on my card) he beat Okine & after sat down with Teddy to tell him he was sorry & that Teddy was right all along. It was a great interview… 17 months later he knocked out Liakhovich to win the WBO title…

So there are two things worth noting, and it’s easy to just focus on only one of those two things depending on whether you like Garcia or not.

There is work to do, he has to get focused and get busy, he has to fix some defensive flaws. Does he have the talent and potential to dominate 135? You bet he does.
Exactly. I thought that was a good test and a good win.

Problem is that he fell off the wagon afterwards, and we can assume it hasn't helped him improve. Add the social media fixation, and it just seems like he's gone already, mentally, from boxing. And add to that all the fighters who are satisfied to fight a no-namer once per year. So we start thinking that's prob him too.

I guess time will tell. But only a little more time has to pass before it's obvious, I think.

I like the hiring of Joe Goosen for Ryan Garcia. Goosen trained a tall lanky powerful but chinny 135lb in the late Diego Corrales. Goosen will bring out the best offense for Garcia

Goosen is a cheerleader. When he had the Ruelas brother, he ran around telling everyone that Rafael was gonna be the next Arguello and Gabe was gonna be the next Duran.

Gotta believe there’s a reason why Goosen hasn’t trained an elite fighter in years.

Why? Garcia ain’t that guy. Even if he was talented enough to get there, it’s obvious that he doesn’t have the dedication or mental strength to get there. I think he fails his first true test (Loma, Kombo, Tank, Haney and maybe even Pitbull).

Except Khan was more than willing to fight quality opposition rather than just talk/post/tweet about it like Garcia.

                      c) beating Campbell isn’t really that big of a deal

                      d) Garcia has backed out of every decent fight that was there for him.
