Even if it's early, let's remember that the upcoming fight between Kazuto Ioka and Donnie Nietes will be on WEDNESDAY (July 13th).
I'll tag that onto the thread for Madrimov - Soro II and Magasayo vs Vargas (probably skip Delboy vs Pulev - on name recognition perhaps they should be in but both are at the tail end of their careers, neither is top 10 per Ring or TBRB, neither and there's nothing resembling a title on the line)
Most likely to skip this weekend altogether I think. Got half an eye on Tete vs Cunningham and Mikhalkin vs Johnson but with no titles and none of em top 10s hard to justify.
Looking at this kid Breidis is fighting though seems he was a Junior world champion at 80kg in 2011 and bronzed at Heavy in the world Youth championships in 2012 which ain't to be sniffed at.... his pro career is utterly devoid of names though and there's nothing to suggest he's at the kind of level to make this one competitive.
I know he's been on a steady diet of Aus level sluggers but he actually looks pretty damn tidy and barely dropped a round in his pro career (as you'd expect from a world level junior ammy). He's also quite quick for a big boy....
I have, he's decent. skilled southpaw with some pop and good am credentials. obviously his level of opposition has been nowhere near world level, but I'll be backing him for the upset, breidis is old af. People seem to forget that Noel Gevor fight too, clearly lost that one.
how you doing anyways bud? Long Time no see

Yeah, I hadn't seen him before but I've been watching a little footage and he absolutely looks a class fighter up to the level he's fought plus he was a world class youth ammy. You can never tell with such a massive step up but this fight could potentially be a lot more interesting than I first thought.
This year we have run several rather predictable fights such as Okolie vs Cieslak or, more recently, Ennis vs Clayton. Not to mention Sunny Edwards vs Waseem and Benavidez vs Lemieux.
I think Opetaia, being young, unbeaten and - above all - fighting at home has definitely more chances to cause an upset than Clayton or Lemieux.
I might be proven wrong of course, and perhaps Briedis wins in the second round or so. However, excluding the fight on the basis of "no one knows the opponent" doesn't look consistent enough to me.
