My biggest beef with the ESPN production is their horrible use of cameras. Its like we have an art student producing the whole thing. 50% of the fight is shown using their floating camera above the ring on a guide wire; you are almost looking straight down for most of the fight with an awful angle for watching a competition. Then they go with the super tight apron camera for another 25% of the fight, where half your screen is filled with an ultra zoomed in shot of one of the fighter's backs.

Hardly any of the fight is shown from a traditional camera angle, which is best to see what the heck is actually going on. It wasnt broke, but they felt the had to fix it in this regards. If I don't like the commentators I can always mute it, but when the camera angles are bad not much you can do to get it better.

Some say well if you don't want to watch it don't buy it. Sort of true but see there are undercards that have fighters that might have been of interest to a fight fan but now he steps up and after watching him develop you dont get to watch his step up fight could make a fan angry. And with the amount of fighters getting PPV money who have not achieved that level yet it gets harder to have people who are interested in boxing (new) to be able to get a feel for the fight game. So there is that. But boxing is a sport that has higher level fights (down time,) so how to fill it ? With more fights ? NO just debate the value of a PPV or a comment a fighter used on a podcast anything to keep people thinking boxing but not having fights develop in a real reasonable way. As long as these guys get something above break even money for there low level PPVs they will continue even if they just get a little light shown on there fighter anyway possible. Sometimes for a lot of fighters getting on PPV itself means more to them then a odd ball belt oh and the money is not bad either. Unless your a fight fan.

Once I seen FOX, Corp mentioned that Boxing PPV was profitable in their Annual Report I warned people that more PPV's was likely coming

They're using Boxing to build up their Digital Platform it seems, not sure how it works and how flopping PPV's are profitable to them but somehow it is which is why they're rolling out more in 2022 unfortunately for some of us. So if we want more big fights for free then it will indeed take a Network to make a major investment into the sport with a huge budget allowing Boxing to give us everything for Free like how the NFL does and I don't see that happening

Yeah it is Ads Revenue, they did Mentioned it Directly in their Q1 Report that they got a 15% increase in just a Quarter and a big part of that being PPV BOXING so clearly they're thinking, well if we do more PPV's then we can get a even bigger % Increase in 2022 and here we are more PPV's in 2022 with More to be announced soon Allegedly:

This model of PPV is just not sustainable. I would actually be shocked if this one has the 75,000 eyeballs that this article says is the low end.

Considering Fox is still trying to sell FS1 as an actual ESPN competitor, I am baffled as why 2-3 million eyeballs is not considered a win on broadcast TV. The amount of cross promotion chances lost as no one watches on PPV seems like a huge self inflected wound. Put this on Fox, simulcast it on FS1, promote your sports brand.

It's a shame. I think what you are seeing are a couple factors happening at the same time: the economic realities of pandemic, the fact that boxing is a niche and the fighters still wanting the same purses.

it's funny, I see NSB posters gloating and cheering as PBC, FOX, Matchroom or DAZN falter... but they are oblivious to the fact, as boxing fans, they are just squabbling dinosaurs while the meteor comes streaking down to impact.

HBO is out, Showtime still around (probably because of Espinoza) but not as prevalent, FOX's quality is diminishing and poor quality PPVs increasing, DAZN has less content and hinting at PPV. Im not sure how much long ESPN will be committed. Unless something changes, the sport will be pushed to the margins and the price point will increase for us to watch an increasingly inferior product.

I see boxing's future being relegated to apps, probably where we are provided mediocre content for a basic fee and required to purchase anything better a la carte PPV (similar to FiteTV).
