Comments Thread For: DAZN's Markowski Assures Taylor-Serrano Will Be Streamed Before Valdez-Stevenson Starts

Joe Markowski wants April 30 to be a big night for boxing, not just DAZN. Markowski, DAZN's executive vice president, also can't emphasize enough that networks and streaming services should avoid counter-programming one another whenever possible. It's inevitable sometimes for there not to be at least some overlap, particularly when broadcast and cable networks in the United States are obligated to televise fights on certain dates.

Nothing is more frustrating than having zero fights Monday-Friday and Sunday, then having four different boxing cards, 2 MMA cards, and a bare knuckle card on Saturday. Combat sports in general and boxing in specific are very cannibalistic and frustrating.

Amen brother , especially the smaller cards why put those on Saturday? When you can put them during the week competition free , DAZN of All Networks should have more Weekday cards not like they are fighting for a TV slot . ESPN plus cards too

Smart move, far more interested in Valdez/Stevenson.

ESPN is putting Valdez vs Stevenson on after the NFL draft? That's going to be a great sports Saturday.

Probably won't leave the house that day. Other than to make a groceries and beer run.

12 round easy decision win for Serrano. 8th or 9th round TKO for Stevenson.

I wonder how much of the selection process for fight dates happens because of live gates and competition from traditional TV options?

I don't know the analytics, but I imagine it's easier for people to attend live sporting events on weekends. Additionally, Friday and Saturday nights are viewed as less competitive television viewing days (people go out to dinner, events, vacations, etc on days off). Traditionally, Sunday thru Thursday evenings are seen as the marquee TV slots.

Personally, I'm with you. I'd love to see more fight cards scattered throughout the week like when ESPN and USA networks had Thursday and Tuesday night fights.

I get why they don't necessarily want to do it in the middle of the week, but how about at least spreading them out across the weekend? One card Friday night, 1-3 all day Saturday, 1 or 2 Sunday.

Rather recently I had a TV, a desktop, and two laptops set up so I could watch all the fights at the same time. That's utter nonsense. I realize there's not 100% overlap, but you have to figure it's mostly the same group of people that would be watching Top Rank on ESPN+, a UFC card on ESPN, a ShoBox card, and a BKFC event.

It's worse when they compete with themselves on the same damn network. ESPN airing boxing and MMA head to head, Showtime/CBS/Fox/PBC airing boxing vs Bellator head to head, sometimes you get two DAZN cards at the same damn time.

I agree and feel your pain my friend. My simple brain can't handle all that stimulus at once. If there are multiple fight cards, I have to record and then prioritize what order I will watch them in one at a time. Often times that means I'm watching hours on end of fights and trying to fast forward in between fights. It also means I have to avoid sports news sites so I don't see the results before ive watched them.

If it gets to an important fight I'll watch it solo, even if it means pausing a stream or DVR'ing another fight. But I have no problem putting on 2-4 undercard fights at a time whether it's boxing, MMA, kickboxing, or bare knuckle.
