Joe Calzaghe, with fragile hands and apparently throwing slaps, would have beat the brakes off this roided-up Light Middleweight. Canelo fights and looks like an albino Jeff Lacy! The Mexican beef diet for the pasty, freckled, ginger "Mexican" makes the fight slightly more intriguing, but Calzaghe still gets the win. Like a bull and a matador, Joe's ring IQ is one of the highest seen this millennium. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know chit about Boxing. They will compare clubbing bums, like Antonio Tarver or Glen Johnson, to Calzaghe da Great. It is like comparing Arturo Gatti or Micky Ward to Pernell Whittaker. There are a lot of eejits who fall into this category. Mouth breathers.

Joe's hands were shot by that point (he was plagued by hand injuries) so Jones got an easier version Calazagh, also Joe fought him with home advantage, Joe got stick from the fans for not traveling unlike Roy who sat with home advantage till much later in his career when he was shot.

I’d have to back Canelo. Joe was a brilliant fighter though, don’t want to take a thing away from him. Just because I back Canelo doesn’t mean joe couldn’t win.

Yeah I would have wanted Calzaghe to win but style wise I think he may have been facing too much in Canelo. Canelo at super middleweight is far better and adjusted to the weight than he was at jr middle. Calzaghe could potentially outwork him but I see Canelo winning that one in the end

No he wasn’t, he was WELL PAST it and had no more stamina or punch resistance after dropping down from 197 back to 175 which was a loss of pure muscle and water. His career was done after that and even then his reflexes were slowing down

That would've been some fight. If Canelo knocked him down as past their prime Jones and Hopkins did, he probably would knock out Joe.

But it's all guesswork. I think Calzaghe was quite underrated, although I don't think he would beat a prime Roy Jones, and that Hopkins fight was close.

I’d also like to see joe win rather than Canelo. I can not deny that. And I’d be rooting for Calzaghe to do it. My head would say Canelo! Hope your well bud.

I'd take Joe, he was a brilliant super middleweight and the more important reason was that I never saw him lose in the ring, I have seen Canelo lose in the ring at least 3 but perhaps as many as 5 times.

The canelo code has been cracked multiple times. Dodgy judges notwithstanding.

Canelo is a really good fighter but we all know he's "enhanced", like to the tune of he's the poster boy of how far you can push someones physical potential when you know he's never going to fail a test no matter what, whereas Joe I'd be surprised if he wasn't clean,

Also Canelos best wins against guys above 160 arent even in calzaghes ballpark in terms of talent, BJS and Plant? Come on.

Finally let me put it this way

In a fair fight, with fair judging, and OLYMPIC TESTING I think calzaghe styles on Canelo.

If the judges are paid off and Canelo is on super soldier serum it might be a lot closer.

Calzaghe was no slouch--it would be a good fight if both in their prime. Canelo could get outpointed if he didn't get the KO.
