This is a chance for the kid to completely turn his fortunes around if he can win.

It's what makes boxing so great.

      Best of luck to him.

I would laugh if Guidry Michael Bentts Bryan… Anyone remember that one? Morrison coming off a WBO title win over George Foreman has a 6 million title fight lined up with Rid**** Bowe so he takes a tune up & gets smashed in the first round. Bentt went on to lose to Herbie Hide…

Hell yeah, I remember. There's a good Netflix documentary series called Losers. One of the episodes is all about Michael Bentt. Some very good insight into his life and career leading up to that fight and afterwards.

Herbie Hide was a murderous puncher. He busted up Bentt pretty violently which resulted in brain damage that cut his career short (somewhat mercifully as it allowed Bentt to pursue his dream of acting).

Good article. Always interesting to hear the background stories of lesser known fighters. His story of struggle and perseverance for little limelight and compensation is more common than not for most professional fighters. It's why I don't like when terms like "bum" are thrown around to describe those willing to lace up the gloves.

That being said, there's another story not told here. One of of corruption, manipulation of rankings and trinket belts to enrich a very few while guys like Guidry get used and tossed a few dollars for their troubles and sacrifice.

I hope that my Louisiana homeboy pulls out the victory. That would be a serious life changer for him.

No disrespect to anyone and I truly hope that no one gets killed or injured. But here is hoping that the WBA headquarters in Panama City, Panama just implodes in on itself and the wreckage and whole organization just disappears into the dustbin of boxing history.

Great post. I feel the same about all the crooked orgs. Kudos to you.
