When SRR mentioned his job was to basically try to kill his opponent and the ref job is to stop it. I can't remember the exact quote

I'll find the exact details if anyone's interested, this is from memory.

In the day Dempsey had a column in a paper. In that column he shared boxing stories through his career.

The man only ever fought one black guy in his career, early, then drew the colorline, but he loved black boxers for his training camps.

One of his early training partners who'd be with him a while was Rufus Cameron

Jack tells us a story about Ruf being hauled into court by his wife.

The judge listens as Mrs.Cameron explains Ruf's been beating her for years and she just can't take it no more.

Her face is obviously abused, bruising and cuts, swollen, you know, she's looking as battered as she's complaining.

The judge summons ol Ruf to the stand and asks him if he has any defense

Rufus Cameron tilts his head back, looks that judge straight in the eye and says "Don't pay her no mind judge, she is punch-drunk"

I know it's horrible, but **** you, that **** is funny as ****. That was dude's full defense too.

“Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” Muhammad Ali
