  • G made a good choice for switching up trainers

Abel Sanchez made him into a walk you down machine, but in old age (boxing wise) that is going to put miles on the clock REAL fast. I think if he keeps himself in good shape and mixes in his old school slick Olympic style with Banks, he is physically still good for another few years. Team Reynoso is really going to stink this one out.

Yes the Reynosos did clear out 168 but remember the champions: that gypsy that went into survival mode the first time he got touched, a live Mayweather gym punching bag, and a guy that had trouble with a kickboxer that was called on 3 days notice.

Triple would have destroyed them all but they did not want to give G the chance because those fighters were waiting on a paycheck from Team Reynoso.

The best thing he did was hire an actual strength and conditioning coach and nutritionist. Abel did him a disservice in the leadup to the Canelo fights by letting himself balloon up in weight in between fights. Started showing signs in 2016. The worst he looked was prior to the first Canelo fight and I think that affected him on fight night. It was better for him to move up at that time but with the Canelo fight looming, it's understandable to stay at 160. Too little too late though. He'll preserve himself by hardly fighting and not taking on anyone that matters so doesn't really mean much if he lasts a few more years.

Probably. Not to mention he was already 37 when he made the change so it could be the switch, age or both.

I disagree Abel made him what he was that's obvious. He's looked like crap since he hooked with that horrible trainer banks.

He never improved under Abel. He was great as an amateur, showed good speed and head movement, was very hard to hit, know for some legendary fights with Andre Dirrell. But Abel made him a slow plodder.

I mean he’s fought absolutely nobody worth a damn since Canelo so it didn’t really matter honestly.

Abel was such a "horrible" trainer yea he only made GGG go unbeaten for 10+ yrs made 20 title defenses and fought to a standstill with the current p4p best today. Yea he wasn't that good.lol

Everyone sure was singing his praised until the 2nd Canelo fight. But yea Abel didn't "help" ggg become the monster he was. He also "didn't" help Terry Norris become a Hall of famer.

Yeah. Able made him look worse, to be honest. There were things that he had done better early on in his career that he started to get worse at later on with Able. Was it Able's fault? Maybe. (Actually, I'm going to look into this because I like Able.) But, for example, Golovkin was way better at cutting off the ring when he first fought pro and then progressively got worse later on. And I'm not the only one to think so either. Pro trainers have had the same thoughts.

Yeah, I can only think that Able was responsible because he was his trainer. Golovkin's fundamentals started to deteriorate the longer he was with Able, so I guess that says something.

Agreed. What other champs does Disabled have? Don’t know if it was Gassiev or Abel but that was an atrocious performance against Usyk.
